Veena Malik to make Bollywood debut

MUMBAI: Pakistani actress Veena Malik is all set to make her Bollywood debut. The official announcement was made at an event in Versova, Mumbai, Geo News reported.

A participant from the famous Salman Khan hosted reality show Bigg Boss 4, Veena Malik made headlines for her speculated romantic relationship with Ashmit Patel. Veena’s Bollywood debut does not come as a surprise since Bigg Boss earned her a considerable fan base in India.

Her debut movie has been titled Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai. Buzz suggests that Veena will be playing a double role in the movie.

Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai will be directed by Aanand Balraj, the younger brother of Deepak Balraj. Deepak has directed the movie Hafta Bandh.

A fact worth mentioning is that while Veena is making her acting debut through this movie, Aanand Balraj is making his directorial debut! Aanand was previously an actor and was seen in various short roles in the Subhash Ghai films like Ram Lakhan, Khalnaayak, Saudgar and Pardes.

'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows- Part 2' trailer released

LOS ANGELES: The trailer of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," has hit the Interwebs Thursday (June 16).

Even for those who have read the books over and over again and are fully prepared for what's going to unfold when the film hits theaters on July 17, this latest trailer is so action-packed, so full of intensity and emotion, it's almost too much to handle.

The trailer opens with a distraught Lily Potter (Harry's mom) speaking to her infant son.

"Harry, be safe," she says in a strained whisper.

"Be strong." Cut to the words "Every moment he's lived has led to this," before an eerie voice-over by evil Dark Lord Voldemort comes in over flashback scenes of key moments in several of the previous seven films.

"Harry Potter, you have fought valiantly," Voldemort sneers. "Now join me, and confront your fate."

From here on out, much like the action in the second half of J.K. Rowling's seventh Potter book, things get very intense. There are flashes of Voldemort in several states of mind and presence, all of them ferocious and teeming with dark force.

Lucknow's date with B'wood

This was Lucknow's day to shine in the B'wood stars' reflected glory.

Friday saw the presence of 10 Bollywood names in Lucknow. From Ranveer Singh, who's shooting in old Lucknow for Yash Raj Film's next, to Mahesh Bhatt who brought his play "The Last Salute" to the city, the stars did shine down on the city amply after the eclipse.

Film promotions in the city generally see a dip during the summer months, when the weather here gets too hot to handle.

So, while Salman Khan skipped his tour of Lucknow to promote "Ready" for reasons he knows best, Lucknowite Roshan Abbas came with the cast of his directorial debut yesterday.

Since "Always Kabhi Kabhi" had two shooting schedules in Lucknow, this was only expected. And while Roshan was keen to keep the stars of his film – Zoa Morani, Giselli Monteiro, Ali Fasal and Satyajeet Dubey – under wraps during the shooting, he was more than happy to take the cast around town this time.

Ricky Bahl in Lucknow

The wavy locks were replaced with hair gelled back, while a turquoise kurta with gold chikankari work took the place of denims and T-Shirt, as Ranveer Singh, the lead in Maneesh Sharma's "Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl" began with the Lucknow leg of the film yesterday.

Currently being shot in the bylanes of Lucknow's Chowk area, the film's four-day schedule will also include shooting outside the Bara Imambara. There was a buzz about Anushka Sharma, the female lead in the film also coming to town, but according to sources, she will not be shooting in Lucknow.

Accompanying Ranveer on the sets was Lucknow girl and actress Aditi Sharma, one of the ladies that Ricky Bahl encounters in the film. Aditi plays Saira in the movie, a Lucknow resident. Says a source on the sets, "Ricky Bahl is playing a conman who comes to Lucknow from Barabanki and his encounter with Saira is being shot in the marketplace here."

Chowk resident Ravindra Dayal's 110-year-old house has doubled up as Aditi Sharma's clothes' shop in the film.

UP's affair with B'wood

There's simply no stopping the filmi deluge into UP now.

Anand L Rai, director of " Tanu Weds Manu" will set his next film in Varanasi and Allahabad. Rai, who was recently in Varanasi to do a recce of the city, says his film – a love story – will be based in the city. His logic, "Since the female lead in the film belongs to Varanasi, this is how the city comes in. The character of the film is youthful, has fire and a certain allharpan, that is so characteristic of Varanasi," smiles the director.

In quite a contrast from that other film that professed to showcase Varanasi, "Yamla Pagla Deewana", but was shot elsewhere, Rai says his film will try and capture the city's essence. "Locations for the shooting, which will begin in December as we wish to cash in on the beautiful winters here, will include the ghats and the famous lanes," informs Rai and adds, "However, the idea is not to give a touristy view of the city. Instead, I want to present its essence."

While Rai is extremely reluctant to let us in on who will play the female lead, he divulges, "Since the character has spent some years of her life in Allahabad, we will include the Sangam City in our schedule."

And while we are discussing the increasing number of films being shot here, Rai says, "Weaving tales around towns of North India attracts me. Places like Lucknow, Kanpur, Banaras and Allahabad have a certain innocence that gives these cities an edge over the metros. People here still have an attachment for life which is missing in bigger cities."
Himanshu Sharma, who penned "TWM", is also the scriptwriter of the movie. Himanshu is excited about the project. "This is one of the two scripts that I have been working on post "Tanu Weds Manu".

We plan to shoot the film in Banaras, Ayodhya, Aligarh and neighbouring cities," he says, adding, "This film is more intense than the last one. It's a love story but with a serious edge to it. The cast is yet to be decided and we hope to begin shooting by the end of this year."

Malaika mistaken as Zayed Khan's wife

Malaika Arora Khan is being mistaken for Zayed Khan's wife Malaika (Malli). A bitchy actress called us to say, "I was very amused when someone thought Malaika (Arora) was pregnant when actually Zayed's wife is due in August.

Recently, someone mistook the Munni Badnaam Hui actress for Malli and called her relative to congratulate her on Malla's good news.

Unfortunately, the fiery relative got extremely upset and fired the poor man for spreading wrong news.

Now we know Malaika and Arbaaz's marital happiness has come under speculation for the last month (with both vehemently denying it to the media) but this is no way for relatives to act." Malaika was seen at an awards event in Mumbai sans Arbaaz. Should we jump to conclusions again?

Deepika Padukone's table dance

Deepika Padukone shot some high energy dance sequences at a night club in London for Homi Adajania's film.

We hear that the grand nightclub in Clapham junction, London was booked for Monday and Tuesday for the shoot. Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty were also present but they were just there to cheer her on. 300 extras were hired for Dippy's song.

The sexy actress was seen leading the whole club by dancing on the table placed in the middle of the floor. DP sure is one sultry shaker!

Karisma Kapoor's Dangerous Ishq

Karisma Kapoor's comeback film is turning out to be a film from a completely different league. Vikram Bhatt's ambitious venture Dangerous Ishq is going to be the biggest challenge of the actress' career.

Not only does she have to train herself in martial arts, Karisma will also play five different roles across five different lifetimes covering various events; spanning from the ancient spiritual times to the partition of India, assassination of ex-prime minister Indira Gandhi to present day politics.

Reluctant to reveal details, Vikram Bhatt who is currently busy with pre-production work, says, "Yes Karisma's character will go back in time to four different eras, including the role in present time, so it's a total of five roles.

The story opens in 1498 and then moves through various eras to contemporary times. Karisma will start with playing Mirabai and then move forward in time."

Speaking about Karisma, Vikram says, "She has always been a hard-working actress. But I feel this film is going to be the biggest challenge of her career. Dangerous Ishq will take her to a whole new level as an actor."

The actress faces an added challenge of doing heavy-duty action sequences for the first time. According to our sources, Karisma requires extensive training in martial arts for the action sequences.

The film written by Amin Haji would have Karisma sharing screen space with five different leading men.

Farhan & I have no issues Zoya

With her second film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara up for release, director Zoya Akhtar recounts her directorial journey and filmi background

The job

Firstly, as much as I hate to admit it, my debut film Luck by Chance was not a box office hit! However, everyone who viewed it really appreciated, but that is a different matter, which of course, has its own share of rewards. The film did very well for me as a director. As for money V/S acclaim, I think both are important, but the idea is to merge the two. I believe that every director should have their own perspective, a point of view and a voice, no matter what story they are telling. That is the key.

Being a director, you are running a crew of over 150 people who each ask you 150 questions a day. So, you got to know what you want and you got to hire people that love what they do; the rest is pure stamina. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a multi-starrer and the benefit of having a big star cast is that they generate interest in the project, and more often than not, they assure high ticket sales.

I got really lucky as everyone got along with each other. It was gruelling work and tiring schedules, but they have tremendous stamina. Plus, there were no star tantrums; they actually had a blast!

Filmi family

Coming from a filmi family does help, as you get to meet people much easily, and sometimes you know them well too, which seems to grab the interest of the press as well. But on the flipside, everybody out there thinks you have it easy, which isn't true. We work just as hard.

When it comes to Farhan, people often ask me if I feel overshadowed by him as we are both directors. But we have no such issues. We are very tight and I love working with him. In fact, we actually work very well together. He's a natural. He's very comfortable in his skin and therefore slips into a character very easily.

Personally, I believe in living life to the fullest. I work hard and party harder. I don't want to miss out on anything. I make time to do the things I love to do. And, as for settling down, I don't know what that even means. I feel settled in my life.

Working on Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

The film is essentially about a road trip taken by three friends, just before one of them gets married. They set out to actualise a pact they had made in college, where each will choose an adventure sport and the other two just have to do it. The trip transforms into a journey that changes them forever.

I have been on countless road trips myself and I always wanted to do a film based on it. And since my first film Luck By Chance was set in Mumbai, I wanted to shoot something visually and thematically different.

I really enjoyed working with Hrithik again. I think he's an amazing actor and he has so many wonderful attributes to his credit, like dance, action and good looks; I truly believe he can do anything. He works really hard and the best part is that even though he is a huge star, on the sets, he is simply an actor.

He loves what he does and doesn't take anything for granted. As for Abhay, he is brave! He will try anything. He has no qualms about anything, once he likes a script. Also, I feel he has a very unique sensibility for a Bollywood actor. He picks parts that are juicy and he essays roles that other actors would not be comfortable doing.

I want to compose music Aftab

Aftab Shivdasani says he's keen to do all kinds of films, including art films, and sheds light on his association with Somy Ali

Aftab Shivdasani hasn't been seen on the big screen since 2009's ghastly Aao Wish Karein, but the dimple-cheeked actor will now been seen in an out-an-out comedy flick, Bin Bulaye Baraati, which releases today.

This writer met with the actor at the Dhanraj Productions office. Aftab had a terrible cold that day (he sneezed repeatedly during the course of the interview) and was simply dressed, in a pair of jeans and a V-neck t-shirt, and somehow yet managed to look handsome. Excerpts:

Your last film release was in 2009. Was this break intentional?

Yes, the break was intentional and I wanted to spend some quality time with myself. In eleven years of my career in the midst of people, I did not get time for myself. I needed time to grow internally. Also, nobody can remain in the news 24/7, be it Aamir Khan or Shahrukh Khan.

What is your role in the film?

I am playing a guy who is on the run from the police as well as the gangsters. My love interest in the film is Nisha Kothari (changed her name to Priyanka). There is a gang of five vagabond people who land up in Madhavgarh village and happen to save the village from Daaku Durjan Singh ( Gulshan Grover). This film is an out-an-out comedy and a complete entertainer for the masses.

Do you want to entertain the masses only?

I am open to any kind of films, even art films. I've always believed I am an actor, not a star! Stardom comes after being an actor.

The film has plenty of comedians. You did not mind being a part of a multi-starrer film?

I am also a comedian (Laughs). Jokes apart, I did not mind at all. It is a privilege to work with such good actors. I got an opportunity to learn from them. A film is an outcome of an effort by the whole team and not just by the main leads.

Have you moved away from the boy-next-door kind of roles?

I have grown biologically and spiritually. I agree I have a young and a soft face, which makes it easier for me to play boy-next-door roles. But I can still play anything you want me to (smirks).

Is it true that you desire to become a music composer some day?

Yes, I want to learn and compose music one day. I love all kinds of music, be it instrumental, abstract, lounge or hip-hop.

Somy Ali and you have recently been linked together by the media. Reportedly, you and Somy Ali were spotted in a coffee shop in America together. Is it true?

We were present together at a function during new years where we both were guests. That was the first and the last time we met. I am supporting her NGO 'No More Tears' which fights against injustice for women.

How did you get associated with the film Players?

I am playing a cameo in the film. I do not want people to expect much from it. I did it because of a request from Abbas-Mustan.

Deols choose Rawail over Karnik

After the much talked about fall out between Samir Karnik and the Deols, the latter have now brought in Rahul Rawail to direct the Yamla Pagla Deewana sequel.

The film will be starting by the end of this year after Sunny Deol finishes shooting Ghayal Returns, the sequel to his blockbuster Ghayal. Incidentally, Rahul Rawail was actually scheduled to make a film with Sunny this year.

Our source confirmed, "Yamla Pagla Deewana is one of the biggest hits of this year. After Apne, this was the second film where all the three Deols, Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby starred together.

However, after the film's success Samir Karnik and Sunny Deol had some issues, because of which Samir Karnik is now out of the Deol camp. Meanwhile, the Deols were keen to make a sequel to their hit film and that's why they decided to bring in Rahul Rawail who has been associated with the Deols for almost 30 years now.

Rawail has made many films with Sunny including his debut film Betaab. Rawail also had worked with Bobby in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya."

When contacted, Rahul Rawail neither confirmed nor denied the news, saying, "I can't comment on anything at the moment."

Censor has a problem with Double Dhamaal

Barbara Mori's Kites may have failed to soar in the Bollywood skies, but she'd be glad to know that there are some who are willing to fight for her dignity.

A character played by Ashish Chaudhary in Indra Kumar's Double Dhamaal, reportedly a spoof on the Latin actress, has been severely criticised by the Censor Board for its insensitivity. In the film Ashish calls himself Barbara Hori and dresses in drags.

While Indra has been asked to delete the word Hori as it made to sound offensive, Ashish, who has used prosthetics and silicone implants to give definition to his character, will be called Barbara Gori.

A source claims, naming the character Hori was a mistake on Inder's part. "The way the name is pronounced in the film, makes it sound really offensive. It was blasphemous, to say the least. The objection from the Censor Board was expected."

The Censor screening was presided by the CEO of the Censor Board, Pankaja Thakur. Did Indra imagine he would get a clean chit? Indra claims, "Not at all. It was not intentional."

When contacted, Thakur said, "There is no question of U or A certificate here. It's not a sexual comedy scene where a filmmaker wants to retain it for some reason. This 'Barbara Hori' just couldn't stay.

You are talking about a woman's dignity here and not about a Hollywood or Bollywood heroine. I cannot allow this to pass." Taking potshots at a living person will not be tolerated, says Thakur, adding, "Ashish's get up and the Spanish dialect made it very evident who he was referring to."

Ashish and a few other actors had to redub all the dialogues where the name Barbara Hori crops up. "It was a tough job. But Censor Board was adamant even with an A certificate, as it amounts to showing a Hollywood actress in very bad light," added the source.

The filmmaker seems to have been chastened suitably. "I want to thank the Censor Board, especially Pankaja Thakur, for showing me the right path. Double Dhamaal is a family film and it is better if there is nothing objectionable in it," he added.

Sohail Khan has a baby boy!

Salman Khan is a 'Chachu', again. Sohail Khan has become a father of another baby boy on Thursday.

His wife Seema and the baby are doing fine. The Khan parivaar is on cloud nine. "Soon, there might be a big celebration in this regard," said a source close to Sohail.

"Sohail and Seema haven't decided on the name, yet. They have short listed few names but have to still take a final decision," he added. Sohail has an older son called Nirvaan.

But nobody knew that Seema was pregnant, right? Said the source, "Yup. You can say that almost nobody knew. Sohail and Seema are very private people. Seema was hardly seen in social-dos since the past seven months."

Vidya not in Ishqiya 2

After winning rave reviews and four film awards for her performance in Ishqiya, Vidya Balan being a part of the sequel was a forgone conclusion. The actress even attended the party where Vishal Bhardwaj announced Ishqiya 2.

However, the news is that the actress will not be a part of the film in question. While Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi will carry on the legacy of Ishqiya in the sequel as the male leads.

According to a source, director Abhishek Chaubey's script for the sequel doesn't have a role, which requires Vidya. "Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi do fall in love again in the sequel but not with Vidya. They fall in love with two different girls," said the source.

Also, to play one of the two leading ladies in the film, Bhardwaj and Chaubey have approached Madhuri Dixit. "Madhuri asked for a very high fee. So we don't know whether she is a part of the film, yet," concluded the source.

For Vidya Balan, who at a media event had ambitously asked Shah Rukh Khan and Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman to star with her in Ishqiya 2, the film will now remain just a dream.

On the other hand, Madhuri, who had some free time before starting her shoot for Sanjay Dutt's version on Satte Pe Satta, to which she had reportedly given her nod, might just be the next Ishqiya lady.

Kareena Saif All is not well

The four-year-old Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's relationship is going through strain. Says an insider, "They are having some issues. They have been arguing and fighting a lot, more than normal couples do. And it isn't healthy.

One of the reasons for the differences is that they are not being able to spend time with each other. Bebo has always been the busier one (by choice) and Saif had no qualms about being with her on the outdoors of her films, whenever time permits. But since he began shooting for his last two films — Akarshan and Cocktail — things haven't been the same."

A source close to the couple adds, "The other matter is delicate. It's about the money being spent by the actress. While Saif doesn't mind splurging on his girl, he doesn't quite feel the same way about shelling out for her family's holidays etc. Especially now when he has been feeling the financial pressure with his second production Agent Vinod getting delayed. He was to shoot in seven countries before. But that changed and the budget was scaled down majorly. Before he left for his London outdoor, the couple had a huge fight about finances."
Saif has also been upset with Kareena for not spending enough time with him.

She hasn't made time for their annual mid-year holidays as she's been shooting round the clock for Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan's home productions or her endorsements and attending promotional events. The source adds, "While the mid-yearly holiday in July appears impossible, even a Christmas holiday for Kareena looks difficult now as she starts promotions for Aamir's film then."

A production assistant from the sets of Bodyguard informs, "One day Kareena broke down while talking to him on the phone. She was emotional, and crying." Saif likes doing one or two films in a year, and likes his holidays and breaks in between. But this year, it looks impossible given her schedule, and he is irritated about that.

And finally, there are the rumours of Saif's bonding with Deepika Padukone. First on the 45-day schedule of Akrakshan and now Cocktail in London. Meanwhile, Kareena has found a confidante in Aamir Khan, her co-star in the untitled Reema Kagti film for which they have been shooting in Pondicherry for almost a month.

The source adds that Bebo has been advised to make time for her man if she wants to save her relationship. And that's one of the reasons why she took off to London. "It wasn't just for Madame Tussauds as projected. It was a work-cum-pleasure trip — taken to appease Saif in the wake of their fights and spend some quality time with him. Everyone close to the pair are hoping that they will sail through this rough patch and stay happily ever after."

Sonakshi tries to upstage Shriya

Sonakshi Sinha is not known to be the friendliest of actresses. Post her catfights with Katrina Kaif, Zarine Khan and Asin, the latest to join the list is Shriya Saran. And the catfight was on full display at the Celebrity Cricket League finale.

During the Chennai Rhinos' innings, Sonakshi came with a posse of bodyguards and walked towards Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, Subhash Ghai and her father Shatrughan Sinha — who came in especially for the match and were seated near the Team Chennai dugout. She was sitting next to her dad, chatting and cheering.

The highlight of the innings break however, was actor Shriya Saran's much-publicized performance. And no sooner had the actress gone on stage than Sonakashi got up and began walking towards team Karnataka's dugout. On getting a glimpse of Sonakshi, the crowd went ballistic. Ignoring Shriya's performance, they got busy calling out to Sonakshi, who in turn waved at the crowd, causing more commotion.

"Sonakshi clearly tried to steal Shriya's thunder. She does not like anyone getting friendly with Salman and all through the CCL, Shriya has been sharing a great rapport with Sallu. This did not go down well with Sonakshi. What she did at the stadium was very juvenile," says a source.

Call it a twist of fate, but Shriya did manage to get back at Sonakshi. "Shriya was slated to perform to 'Munni Badnaam' from "Dabangg." As soon as she began to shimmy, the crowd forgot Sonakshi and began cheering for her instead. Sonakshi, immediately went back to her seat, sulking all the way," adds the source.

"Sonakshi does not like Kat, Asin or even Zarine because they are close to Salman. It's the same with Shriya too. The rivalry between the two however, does not end here. The two are being pitted against each other onscreen in Kamal Haasan's upcoming film, "Vishwaroopam." Maybe that is also an issue," said the source.

Yash Raj comes first for Salman

Now that Salman Khan has managed to sort out his long stranded relationship with Yash Raj Films, the actor is giving priority to only their projects as of now.

Salman starrer Kick, which was supposed to go on floors in November this year has been postponed yet again, and sources say it is because Salman gave bulk dates to Yash Raj's Ek Tha Tiger.

Post Dabangg, the busy star is shooting for Bodyguard as of now. "Salman has given bulk dates for Ek Tha Tiger, which he starts shooting in July. After which he will work on Sher Khan leaving him with no time for Kick. Next year he will be busy with Dabangg 2," says a source.

Producer Nadiadwala and director Shirish Kunder had asserted that Kick would go on floors on November 18 but it doesn't seem feasible anymore. Another source claims, "Salman may have delayed Kick knowingly as he was upset when Sajid approached Shah Rukh Khan for 2 States. Funnily, even that film is on hold now!"

When contacted about the same, Shirish replied to our text saying, "About Kick, best you speak to Sajid Nadiadwala." So we asked Sajid who confirmed, "The film will go on floors in November 18 and Salman will be there.

The later schedules may get postponed by a couple of months but that's fine for such a huge film. My production team is currently on a recce in South Korea and Sajid-Wajid are working on the music."

But Salman's manager Vikas Kapoor agreed that Kick indeed has been postponed as of now. "Salman bhai will shoot for Ek Tha Tiger from July. After com pleting two schedules of the film he will start Sher Khan in October. Both films will be shot simultaneously," he said.

I am still friends with Ranbir Imran

Imran Khan is currently on a professional and personal high.

After getting married earlier this year, Imran is now eagerly awaiting his next release Delhi Belly. Riding high on the buzz created by his film, the actor is also looking forward to solve issues on the personal front, as he looks forward to bury the hatchet with Ranbir Kapoor.

Speaking about his long-standing rivalry with Ranbir, Imran played down the whole thing saying, "Everything is fine between the two of us. He just messaged me last week saying that he saw the song DK Bose and he is waiting to watch the film. We're still friends!" Blaming the media for everything that went wrong between them, Imran said, "I am not blind to the stories that come out. When such stories surface, I just pick up the phone and call him.

He in turn messages me to clarify things. Certain people around you will always try to poison your mind. This can be rather dangerous. When the first story about the two of us fighting was printed, Ranbir called me to clarify. There must've been people around him doing all this. I never blamed him for it."

Moving on to his professional life, Imran spoke about his return to Aamir Khan Productions after three years. He started his career with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na in July 2008 and now in July 2011 he will be seen in Delhi Belly.

Talking about his forthcoming release, Imran said, "Delhi Belly is as special to me as my debut film. I think that this is an important film for Indian cinema since it's the first English language film to get a nation-wide release. This film will surely change the way people look at Bollywood."

Though first of it's kind, Delhi Belly has also sparked off too many controversies. "As far as DK Bose is concerned, I knew it that the song will be an instant hit. But then again, youth music has always faced opposition from various quarters in this country and even abroad. 60-years-ago when Elvis Presley came up with his genre of music, there were people who protested," said Imran laying down his thoughts about the many controversies surrounding the song.

"I think that when there is Aamir Khan involved in a project, people tend to piggy back on him to be seen in the media. What can you do about that? However, since the censor board has passed the song, these people who are calling the song names can do whatever they want to. It will not affect the film in any way," said Imran reacting to Anubhav Sinha's comment on the DK Bose song being 'immoral'.

Sanjay Dutt shaves off his head

A heat wave in Diu, where Sanjay Dutt is shooting for Agneepath, literally forced him to go bald.

The actor took the extreme decision to shave off his head. The temperature in the union territory was a searing 48 degrees Celsius and the prosthetic make-up he had on (which took three hours to apply and would take an hour-and-a-half to remove) began melting away.

Dutt's character sports a hairless look in the film and he was expected to have a tonsure. However, he has several films on the floors, and to avoid continuity problems, Hollywood makeup artist Robin Slater's services were enlisted to create the 'bald' look without actually shaving his head. "The first two days of shooting — at a factory in Mumbai went smoothly. Trouble began when they started shooting in Diu. "It started looking scary," says a unit hand, noting, "The make-up started melting and dripping down Sanju's face.

It became so bad that Sanju did a re-think. He had to wake up at 5 am to get ready and report for a 9.30 am shift. It was time consuming as well as cumbersome, so Dutt spoke to his Business Manager Dharam Oberoi and wife Manaayata and decided to go bald. The manager was worried about shooting Dutt's home production Rascals. So Hollywood's famous wigmaker Victoria Wood was flown to Diu to take measurements to make a wig for all his films on the floors.

Dutt says, "I couldn't have handled the make-up mess after a point. It was too tiring. Also, it was a strain on my eyes as prosthetic make-up is heavy.

Priyanka vanishes from Barfee's shoot

On May 26, 2011, Mumbai Mirror reported how Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz fought over their roles in Anurag Basu's Barfee, postponing the next schedule of the film.

The story titled 'Who's the bigger diva?' seems to have found its answer in Ileana D'Cruz, as Priyanka Chopra vanishes from Barfee's shooting schedule.

It all started when Ileana got cold feet after seeing how powerful Priyanka's role is in Barfee. Ileana, apprehensive that her role might be reduced to something like Kangna Ranaut's in Basu's Kites demanded more footage as well as a few extra songs in the film.

After the delay, the shooting for Barfee is all set to resume this week, without Priyanka Chopra! The next schedule in Darjeeling only has Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz. It is not very clear when Priyanka joins them.

A source told us, "Priyanka is currently shooting for Kunal Kohli's film. She then leaves for IIFA awards. Then she comes back to finish Kunal's film. There is no clear indication of when Priyanka joins the Barfee shooting. She has issues regarding her role that need to be sorted out first."

When contacted, Barfee's producer UTV's Siddharth Roy Kapoor said, "The Barfee schedule starts on June 15 in Darjeeling. We'll be shooting there for a couple of weeks. This will be followed by a short schedule in Mumbai. The current schedule is with Ranbir and Ileana. Priyanka joins us for the July schedule in Kolkata." However, when asked about Priyanka's dates for the Barfee shoot, her business manager replied, "I'll check and revert."

Asin is not ready for Neil

Asin Thottumkal basking in the glory of her latest success Ready, seems to have forgotten a few old friends. Neil Nitin Mukesh happens to be one of them. Their 'friendship' seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Not so long ago, the two of them were thick friends. Asin, in fact, took a few career calls for Neil in the past. When he was asked to star in Hriday Shetty's film, the actress came forward and told the director that the script wasn't good enough for Neil. Buzz is, Asin has gone into a different space after Ready hit the jackpot. A friend of Neil confirmed, "Yes. This is true. She has been avoiding him. Perhaps she got carried away by the success of Ready."

Added the source, "But it's okay. We all tend to go on some trip when we are on a high. Asin seems to be on a high horse right now. Neil and Asin's common friends also feel the same."

But like every dark cloud, this one too has a silver lining. Filmmakers like Hriday Shetty, who were finding it difficult to cast Asin and Neil together can now, heave a sigh of relief.

Asin and Neil however, remained unavailable for comments.

Ajay gives cold shoulder to Kangna

Ajay Devgn after going all out to promote his Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai co-star and 'close' friend since around the same time, Kangna Ranaut has suddenly retraced his steps. On the sets of their film Tezz in London, the actor has been giving the girl what we call 'the cold shoulder treatment'.

Though professionally, everything seems to be in sync, the actors are not even talking to each other on a personal level anymore. This attitude shift in Devgn apparently occurred after too many disturbing reports of his proclivities towards Ranaut started making their way to the media.

The rumour gained momentum when Devgn and his friend Rohit Shetty had a spat over casting Kangna as the female lead in Shetty's film Singham. Though Shetty being the director wanted either Kareena or a fresh face for the role, Devgn wanted it to be Kangna. "After that, he took a decision to stay away from Ranaut. Why he chose to do that, is however not known," revealed a source.

On her recent trip to London to finish the shoot of Tezz, Ranaut received a rather cold welcome from her once 'close' friend and co-star Devgn. Incidentally, Devgn's wife Kajol was also around. A source from the sets informed, "Ajay was clearly avoiding Kangna while she shot for her concluding portions in Tez. It was clear that there is some problem between the two."

The personal upheavals however did not have any adverse effect on the shoot. "Both are extremely passionate about their work and have a very professional attitude towards it," explained the source.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Ajay and Kangna sign any other project together in the future. Kangna had already told Mumbai Mirror in an interview (February 2, 2011), "Ajay and I are thinking of not doing films together for two-three years. We are taking a break from each other professionally. That's how Ajay also feels."

Sonakshi to romance Dawood

First, it was Akshay Kumar who took over Emraan Hashmi's character of Dawood in the sequel to Ekta Kapoor's 2010 hit Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. And now, Dabanng girl Sonakshi Sinha has joined the race to play Mandakini, Dawood's love interest in the film.

While media reports suggested that it would be Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor or Deepika Padukone to pair up with Akki in this Milan Luthria directed film, looks like after the success of her debut, Shatrughan's little daughter might be the one to romance the actor on screen.

A source told Mumbai Mirror, " Ekta Kapoor and Milan Luthria are taking their time to choose the leading lady for Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2. They want the girl to be perfect. Initially, they wanted a leading lady to essay the role of Mandakini. But now, they are considering Sonakshi Sinha."

The fact that Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi are already working for two films together seems to be working in favour of the young actress. "Akshay and Sonakshi are already doing Shirish Kunder's Joker and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Rowdy Rathod to be directed by Prabhudeva together. Ekta and Milan will obviously keep that in mind while making their choice," added the source.

The casting apart from Akshay, however is not final yet. "They are still looking for the parallel hero in the film. Once the second actor is finalised, Ekta and Milan will take a call on who will play the leading lady," confirmed the source.

Now we have to wait and watch to find out if Sonakshi turns into Dawood's love for Ekta.

Competition doesn't bother me Sheena

Her entry in the world of entertainment was marked in a tad different way.

Sheena Shahabadi started her career by playing a pregnant teenager in her debut Hindi film Teree Sang. Later on she acted in Fast Forward. Daughter of actor Sadhana Singh and her producer husband, acting is in her DNA. "I had decided to be an actress when I was just five years old and stopped taking interest in any thing apart from films. After the initial resistance, mom helped me realise my dreams. My father could accept my decision only when he first saw me on camera," she says.

She seems annoyed with the conception that star kids are offered everything on a platter. "Star kids have their share of struggle too! Being a star kid is a burden. There is a need to perform well as people have a lot of expectations from them and living up to that expectation is stressful." After a long hiatus Sheena's got a fairly crowded platter with two movies, Raqut - Ek Rishta and an untitled movie. So what was the reason for such a long break (read two years). Pat comes the reply, "I was doing movies in the south and wanted to do good projects in Bollywood."

With so many newcomers in the film industry, does she feel the pressure of competition? "There is a lot of competition in Bollywood but I find it challenging. Competition doesn't bother me much as I compete with myself," she says.

Like her debut movie, Sheena fell in love at very young age, quickly got married and got divorced even faster. She now finds it better to be on her own. "I was so young so I couldn't differentiate right and wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. I made blunders and learnt my lessons. I think I can do without a man. Being single is really cool," says Sheena.

Salman, SRK on Madhuri's wish list

We have seen the reach and impact of a Rajinikant film. Inspite of it all, Bollywood's dhak dhak girl Madhuri Dixit gave an opportunity of working with the South legend a pass! Reason. She didn't want to play his sister's role.

However, our diva is game for working with her Bollywood co-stars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Infact Mads has become a huge fan of Sallu especially after his recent movies like `Wanted' and `Dabangg'.

She even has a special request for filmmakers. "It'll be wonderful to work with Salman and Shah Rukh again...three of us together in one film. I hope some good script comes our way. It'll be so much fun", says Madhuri recalling the chemistry she created with the duo in `Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam'.

Madhuri starred opposite SRK and Sallu in the romantic drama `Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam' in the late nineties. She's also individually worked with SRK in Anjaam, `Dil toh Pagal Hai', Koyla, Gaja Gamini and Devdas while she epitomized romance in `Sajaan', Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, opposite Salman.

"I am aware of the growing popularity of Salman these days. I have seen his recent films. My kids just love it. Salman deserves every bit of his super success today. I really want to work with him if there's a script" she admits candidly.

The actress shares a lovely friendship with both these actors. Marvelling at how well the actors have maintained themselves and are matching steps with younger girls she says. "It's awesome to see all my heroes' getting younger by day and romancing the young girls. It's incredible", signs off Madhuri with a smile.

Aamir Khan reels back in emotion

Buys rights to 11 of 12 films produced by his late father Tahir Hussain

Flashback: Between 1969 and 1994, a producer who was always inevitably struggling launched 12 films, many of which didn't exactly set the boxoffice on fire.

Fast forward to June 2011: The beleaguered producer's son decides to buy the perpetual rights to 11 of those films for a few crore, more in a fit of nostalgia and less with commerce in mind. Such a transaction wouldn't raise too many eyebrows in the big stakes environs of Bollywood. Except that in this case the son buying the perpetual rights is a certain Aamir Khan. The producer is the late Tahir Hussain who died last year at age 71. Ironically, the one film whose rights are in dispute and therefore not with Khan is one in which he stars, called 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke'. "My father was not a top-notch producer like say Yash Chopra or Gulshan Rai. As kids, we have seen really close the lows of his films failing really close," says a dewy-eyed Khan.

Memories of those times still make the emotions well up inside Khan. In the absence of corporate and institutional finance, almost all producers borrowed money from the market at ridiculously high interest rates. Business wasn't Hussain's forte; that apart, long delays in the completion of films and a string of turkeys at the box-office resulted in a Domino Effect on the Khan family. Khan recalls his and his brother's name being up on the school notice board for as many as six months for non-payment of fees. His mother, he adds, would make their uniforms three sizes too large so that they would last longer. "The toughest times were during `Locket' (starring Jeetendra and Rekha, 1986), which took eight years to complete, or even earlier --- 'Khoon Ki Pukar' (1978) which took three years. Actors troubled him with dates and there would be at least 30 calls a day from creditors calling for their money," recalls Khan. Calling up farflung theatres across the country for collections is a vivid, if painful, memory as the figures were invariably imminently forgettable. Hussain for his part did give breaks to a lot of young talent like Reena Roy, Rakesh Roshan, Raj Babbar and Bappi Lahiri, among others. The rough road his father traversed would explain why Khan avoided wearing the producer's cap for years. "It's a thankless job because after employing an entire unit you get all the brickbats for things going wrong; and when the film becomes a hit, the creative talent gets all the credit, never the producer," says Khan. The reality, he adds, is that if it hadn't been for the producer, the creative talent would not have got an opportunity.

To source the films, Khan says he sought the help of "the only man who could have helped me get back my all my father's films which we had lost." The man is Jayantilal Gada, a veteran with a quarter century in the Hindi film industry and founder chairman of Pen India, which holds one of the largest Hindi film libraries. For Gada, the emotional call from Khan was enough to set to work. He traced the negatives of the films to the Hinduja group. Hussain had mortgaged the negatives of all his films to them, says Gada.

A year ago when the library came into the market, Shemaroo Entertainment bought 11 of the 12 films. So the films rights were all with Shemaroo. "Hiren Gada of Shemaroo (no relation of Jayantilal) did not hesitate when I explained the emotional reason of why Khan wanted to own his father's film library, to gift it to his mom; yet it was a nice gesture on Hiren's part (to sell to Aamir)," adds Jayantilal Gada. The transactionwas worth a couple of crore. Yet, there was a small hitch. Shemaroo had already sold the television rights to UTV Movies for five years. Hiren Gada says he was upfront with Khan about it. For Khan, that was the least of the issues. In fact, he is looking at restoring the films before he thinks of anything further. Can Khan monetize these films? Gada of Pen says when old films have only two resources—satellite rights (TV) which is 90% of the value and another 10% maybe from the home video business. So, if Khan decides he can possibly recover what he bought but that's not his focus right now.

For his production house however, which completes a decade this June 15, it adds value and numbers. "Yes, they 11 films get added to the Aamir Khan Productions library now," says Khan finally smiling.

Karisma to do a 3-D film

It's official. Karisma Kapur is returning to films after a hiatus. She has signed Vikram Bhatt's next — Dangerous Ishq, an erotic thriller in 3-D. Her last release was Mere Jeevan Saathi in 2006.

Says a source, "Lolo never really announced her retirement even after her marriage to industrialist Sanjay Kapur in 2003. Despite being busy with her domestic life and subsequent motherhood (daughter Samaira was born in 2005, son Kiaan Raj in 2010), Karisma has always had film offers. She has remained in circulation by signing many endorsements but has now finally given the nod to Vikram's film. His last film Haunted 3-D did well at the box office. That was the clincher for her."

Says Vikram, "When I first gave Karisma a narration, she loved the story and the script. It's a woman-centric film and she plays the main character. Dangerous Ishq is a thriller based on past-life regression. We start shooting in September in Rajasthan."

Karisma is looking forward to the film. "It's a role I haven't done before. The script is very interesting and working in the 3-D format will be a new experience for me," she says.

Asin's attitude killing her

Three years ago, Asin Thottumkal left her top ranking position in Kollywood to shift to the Hindi film industry. In the time since, she has managed Ghajini and Ready, two of the biggest hits in Bollywood.

Yet what does have to show for herself today? Says a trade source, "She has just one film, Housefull 2, in which she will share screen space with Jacqueline Fernandez and Zarine Khan."

Apparently, her PR machinery did try spreading rumours of her doing Vishal Bharadwaj's Two States with Shah Rukh Khan, but the fact is that as of today, even SRK is not keen on Two States. So, that project is definitely in limbo.

What's ailing this 25-something actress? She's a competent actress, pretty, has a good strike rate at the box office but seems to be going nowhere.

Trade sources in Chennai are livid with her because she shortchanged them when she felt Bollywood was opening its doors to her. So, except for a dud Dasavatharam with Kamal Haasan and a hit Kaavalan earlier this year with Vijay (that too an old commitment), she has no Kollywood offers. The newer kids on the block like Ileana D'Cruz, Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha are more sought after.

In Mumbai, she turned down films with several top-ranking filmmakers like Ashutosh Gowariker, because after the debacle of London Dreams, in which Vipul Shah gave her a short shrift, Asin was pretty shattered. She actually sat at home for a year in the prime of her youth doing precious nothing.

Now, Ready is creating records and though Asin (courtesy her friendship with Salman) is the leading lady, she still has no future projects with him. He is committed to doing Kick and Dabangg 2 with Sonakshi Sinha, Ek Tha Tiger with Katrina Kaif and nothing with Asin.

A leading Mumbai producer says that he is keen to cast Asin but the actress has three things going against her. One, she is demanding to be paid as much as Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, two, there is reportedly too much interference from her close ones and three, though she is dependable, she brings no novelty to a project.

This time around the target of terrorists was a university at an urban centre where a lot of students from other Islamic states are being educated. The film is based on original events that took place on that fateful day. It highlights the gallantry of a Christian sweeper Pervez Masih whose timely intervention curtailed the devastation of the blasts saving at least fifty lives, while he lost his own.

He embraced Shahadat during the most important operation at Puchaar, the headquarters of militants. He fought fearlessly like a true soldier and became the only one embracing Shahdat during that operation.

He lead from the front and sacrificed his life in the line of duty – one of the initial martyrs of Operation Rah-e-Raast whose sacrifice became a prelude to Pak Army's historic success in Malakand Division against terrorists. The role of Capt. Bilal Zafar Shaheed has been aptly played by an SSG Capt. Ahsan Kayani.

Director: Azeem Sajjad
Cast: Asad Malik, Zahid Qureshi, Tipu

It is a film depicting a difficult group action of the soldiers from 12 northern light infantry during operation Rah-e-Raast during which they over powered militants, penetrated deep in to their territory and got hold of two vital peaks. The whole combat took lives of seven soldiers that held the mountain peaks dying one after the other till the ground support reached. This success opened a strategically crucial approach to Sakhra valley for Pakistani forces.

Mehrunnisa Ka Lashkar

Mehrunnisa Ka Lashkar

Writer: Asghar Nadeem Syed
Director: Azeem Sajjad
Cast: Ayesha Sana, Najibullah Anjum, Tariq Jamal, Ali Khan

Adversity brings best in man. Legends of resilience of people of Buner surfaced when terrorists moved to the district in sheer violation of the peace accord. In fact the very move compelled Pakistani authorities to declare all out war against militants. It is the story of one Mehrunnisa who inspired the local people to confront the terrorists and form a Lashkar to push them back.

The glorious tale of valor of a woman unveils the resilience embedded in Pakistani people.

Parwaz-E-Junoon

Parwaz-E-Junoon

Writer: Kashif Nisar
Director: Kashif Nisar
Cast: Maj. Zahid Bari, Maj. Khalid Maooz, Erum Akhtar

This film covers only one out 100s of stories where Army Aviation did wonders during operation Rah-e-Raast. Based on a true incident when 2 helicopters (Bell and Cobra) covering an Army convoy experienced some heavy fires from one side of a mountain. Soon the pilots found out an 800 kg heavy 14.5 mm anti aircraft gun installed at one of the mountains. It could have proved a big devastation for Pakistani forces. So, both of them decided to do an expedition never heard of before. Instead of trying to destroy the gun they actually managed to lift the gun with the help of three soldiers on the helicopter and brought it back to their base.

The hallmark of this film is the real Aviators playing as three pilots. Maj. Zahid Bari (the one flying the Bell during the actual expedition) has beautifully enacted his own role; the character of Capt. Ahmad Junaid (the one flying the Cobra) has been played by Major. Khalid Maooz while Capt. Nauman Naveed is the third Aviation officer playing the role of MI-17 pilot.

Shweta Bhardwaj back to Bollywood

Shweta Bhardwaj who had made a promising debut with the film Mission Istaanbul is back with a bang. Though her first film bombed at the box office and she disappeared for almost two years.

But now she is back to the industry. "Actually I was quite young and wanted to complete my studies. Also I was in contract for three films with Suniel Shetty's production house which, didn't allow me to work for other production houses," she informs. But now the sultry actress is back with a bang with four films releasing this year.

There is another element, which is supporting her to make her the next hot piece in Bollywood and that is none other than famous celebrity manager Prakash Jaju. Jaju who was out of scene after his fallout with Priyanka Chopra is back. After seeing Shweta's commitment for acting, he immediately signed her and for sure knows that he can make her the next talked about actress in Bollywood as he has done it for several other actresses who he believed had the same talent.

Sonam's b'day without dad

Sonam Kapoor celebrates her 26th birthday today. While mom Sunita flew down from Londonspecially to celebrate her janamdin, dad Anil Kapoor is stuck in Edinburgh shooting for a film.

Sonam says, "I will miss dad. Last year, he was shooting in USA but flew down to Scotland for my birthday. This year, he got stuck in London as shooting got delayed.

He will call me at midnight to wish me. Every year, we celebrate with balloons and cake and go out for dinner. This year, I am shooting for Mausam and won't be able to go out for dinner. My parents haven't given me a birthday gift for the last five years.

However, I look forward to gifts from my sister, Rhea. Every year she thinks of something special. But everyone gives books to me as I love them.
