I strongly condemn this police action and high-handedness Dj Jenny D

DJ Jenny D and other members of the gay community have joined hands to protest against the police action and high-handedness during a raid on a private party at Juhu in suburban Mumbai.

The party and incident which has subsequently come to be known as ''The Juhu Gay Party" was attended by television personalities and others like Bobby darling. Eye witnesses said that the police were very rude to persons perceived to be gay or transgenders and treated them with utmost contempt, besides abusing them in the choicest vulgar and cuss words in Marathi and Hindi. "Those who were perceived to be gay were treated very rudely and inhumanely by the police as though they were murderers or rapists," said Rajesh Singh one of the persons present at the party.

Last week the police arrested and detained about 133 party goers because the venue of the party - a bungalow in the posh Juhu area did not have all the required licenses. The organisers of the party were also arrested by the police for serving liquor without obtaining the requisite licenses.

Said Dj Jenny D, "I strongly condemn this police action and high-handedness. They police should have only arrested the organisers of the party if they did not have the license to serve liquor or play DJ music. But detaining and fining 133 guests is illegal. If you go for a wedding or a Navratri dandiya function and the music is a bit loud you don't arrest or fine all the guests, you only fine the organisers.

Here the guests were fined for dirty dancing! How do the police define dirty dancing? A similar incident had happened two months ago at a pub at Malad in suburban Mumbai where I was playing as a DJ. The club had all the licenses but the DJ license had recently expired and the renewal was pending with the police department.

Most of the guests were not even dancing and some of them hadn't even consumed liquor. Yet all of them were detained and fined by the police. This moral policing must be immediately stopped. Besides the police were treating gays like they were criminals or had committed a felony."

Tanu Weds Manu sequel lockdown

He has been reveling in the success of his romantic comedy, Tanu Weds Manu. And so, a few days ago, director Aanand L Raihad announced his plans to do a sequel to the film, in collaboration with Eros International. However, it seems that their plans will now have to wait on a court verdict.

A source informed us that producer Vinod Bachchan, who supposedly owns 51 percent of the rights to the film, filed a case against Eros for announcing the film's sequel without his consent.

Reportedly, the hearing took place yesterday afternoon and the high court has prohibited both parties from going ahead with the sequel. "Not only that, the court has also prevented remaking the film in any other form.

Upon submission of all the documents by both parties, the court will then decide who has the rights," added the source.

When contacted, Vinod Bachchan said, "Yes, I have sent them a legal notice. I am the 51% rights holder of the film and no one can make a film without my consent. How can they announce the film, without even asking me? The court too has said that no one can make a sequel at the moment."

On the other hand, the official spokesperson of Eros International said, "This is incorrect news, as the rights are not with him."

Ajay Devgn produces Vishal's film

The actor will join hands with Fox Star Studios to rope in the filmmaker before he starts work on SRK's 2 States

Taking his rivalry with the King Khan a step forward, Ajay Devgn has now convinced Vishal Bhardwaj to put the Shah Rukh Khan starrer 2 States on hold and start work on Devgn's Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.

The filmmaker who was supposed to start with the Sajid Nadiadwala project based on Chetan Bhagat's novel will now go on floors with Devgn's film this November. Incidentally, the actor will also co-produce the film along with Fox Star Studios.

A source told Mumbai Mirror, "Ajay has not only convinced Vishal Bhardwaj to direct the film but also got the producers of My Name Is Khan, Fox Star Studios to co-produce the film along with him.

The film titled Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a comedy starring Anushka Sharma opposite Ajay Devgn. Ajay wanted the film to go on floors immediately after he wraps up Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan. his next film Son Of Sardar will now go on floors next year."

With his Shah Rukh starrer 2 States stuck in the initial phases for a while now, Vishal Bhardwaj sounded happy to be able to move on with a project. "I have had the idea for this comedy for almost eight years now.

It's a totally new genre for me. It will be completely different from what I have done in my earlier films. Also, I have missed working with Ajay. He is a great actor and a greater human being. I can't wait to be on the sets with him."

Talking about his leading lady Anushka, Vishal added, "She is a ball of energy. The harder you throw her, the higher she will go. I am looking forward to shooting with her."

The actor and the director are not the only two people happy to have got this project rolling. Vijay Singh, the CEO of Fox Star Studios said, "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a very special film for us at Fox Star. It brings together some great talent - Vishal Bhardwaj, Ajay Devgn and Kumar Mangat. We believe it will draw a lot of attention in 2012."

Ranbir Kapoor, Imtiaz Ali at Hazrat Nizamuddin

To pay a special tribute to the prolific court poet of the Delhi Sultanate, Amir Khusro, Ranbir Kapoor and his Rockstar director Imtiaz Ali paid a visit to the shayar's tomb within the Hazrat Nizamuddin complex, New Delhi on Monday evening.

Singer Mohit Chauhan and producer Hiren Gandhi of Shree Ashtavinayak accompanied Ranbir and Imtiaz to the place known for qawwali.

Surrounded by the spirits of the Gods of Qawwali, Amir Khusro and Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya, Ranbir and Imtiaz prayed for the success of Rockstar, a film based on the passion for music.

When contacted, Imtiaz Ali said, "We are at the Dargah right now. We just thought we should seek blessings of one of the biggest and best musician this country has ever produced through this song we along with AR Rahman have created. Rahman sir speaks very highly of Hazrat Nizamuddin and Aamir Khusro."

Boy-next-door wins the girl

Akshaye Khanna, known to be rather reticent, has won the affections of Shreya Saran, who previously was linked to Salman Khan and Indian cricketer Sreesanth

He is one of the industry's most reticent actors. But it seems that Akshaye Khanna's mild demeanour is working in his favour. Reportedly, the actor has managed to win over the girl that Salman Khan and cricketer Shreesanth could not hold on to. A source informed us that Akshaye and his Gali Gali Mein Chor Hai co-star Shreya Saran have hit it off very well.

The source told us that the two, who have been filming in Bhopal for Rumi Jaffrey's directorial venture, have been spotted cozying up to each other for the past 15 days. "Shreya and Akshaye hit it off from the get-go.

Akshaye has been going out of his way to help her perfect her sequences in the film, since she is more familiar with South Indian cinema. It is clear that they are a couple. Everybody on the sets is talking about their relationship, albeit in hushed whispers," said the source.

And it seems that this new development is a stark change from Akshaye's dating track record. The source explained, "Akshay is very reticent and withdrawn.

He rarely mixes with his co-stars. But his affinity for Shreya is crystal clear. Shreya is exactly opposite in nature. She is a social butterfly. It really seems that opposites attract"

The actor was previously dating actress Tara Sharma. However, in January 2006, the couple ended their two-year relationship. Following his break-up with Tara, his personal life only came under the spotlight in 2010 with a rumoured link-up to Urvashi Sharma, his co-star in the suspense thriller Naqaab.

Shreya, on the other hand, has been more visible on the dating circuit. The South Indian actress was rumoured to be getting rather close to Salman. In fact, she was even invited to Arpita's birthday bash (On August 5, 2011, Mumbai Mirror). Prior to which, she was linked to her Dum Maaro Dum co-star Rana Dagubatti.

And before all the Bollywood men lined-up at Shreya's doorstep, she had a fan in Indian cricketer Shreesanth. Despite repeated attempts, Akshaye and Shreya remained unavailable for comment.

Marc Jacobs brings big finale to NY Fashion Week

NEW YORK: Marc Jacobs drew a beautiful and audacious line Thursday under a New York Fashion Week that stood out for its optimism and bright yellows and oranges.

As he has in the past, Jacobs chose the Armory in southern Manhattan rather than the Fashion Week headquarters at the Lincoln Center for his Spring-Summer 2012 show.

The theatrical choreography saw about 50 unworldly outfits mixing materials and turning conventions upside down.

Cellophane for raincoats, fringed coats, fake crocodile for straight yellow or dark red skirts, sparkly turbans and loafers -- Jacobs was as innovative as ever, and that was before he unveiled the strange, transparent cowboy boots.

Nylon, cellophane, organza, silicone and silk socks to go with golden high heels were just some of the materials he used, setting up a show to delight the celebrity fan club, including Sofia Coppola and actress Elle Fanning.

Earlier Thursday, Ralph Lauren won lengthy standing ovations for his 1920s-inspired collection, recalling the "Great Gatsby" days of vintage jade silk chiffon dresses and high-waisted, side-button trousers.

Cloche hats, pinstriped blazers and flapper-style beaded gowns, including with an ostrich-feather headscarf, completed the look.

For all the fantasy, this was a Fashion Week that could not exclude the outside world.

It opened as New York marked the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks and Marc Jacobs asked to hold his preview until the end because of delays in preparations caused by Hurricane Irene.

There was also a whiff of scandal over the Guli collection from the daughter of Uzbekistan's authoritarian president Islam Karimov.

After human rights groups complained about her participation, the fashion week took the unusual measure of canceling the show.

Instead, the Guli collection, mostly flowing silk dresses, was unveiled in the chic Cipriani restaurant.

Overall this week, the colors were resolutely optimistic and sharp and a new tech-friendly approach allowed fashionistas to follow many collections live on their computers and phones, without having invitations to the Lincoln Center.

A newly pregnant Beyonce, Michael Douglas and Whoopie Goldberg were among the A-listers in the front rows.

London Fashion Week starts Friday and runs through September 21. (AFP)

Jackson killed by greed, medic's fault brother

LOS ANGELES: Michael Jackson was driven to his death by a mix of greed, power and money, one of his brothers claimed Thursday, while saying the star's doctor "had no business" giving him the drug that killed him.

Speaking before the manslaughter trial of medic Conrad Murray kicks off this month, Jermaine Jackson said those surrounding his brother failed to look after him, as they pushed him to play a lucrative series of comeback gigs.

He described how his brother's health had clearly deteriorated in the months leading up to his death -- when he was rehearsing intensively for the This is It shows in London -- but those around him had not told the family.

"Why didn't somebody call me or Jackie or Tito or Marlon or his family, to say, 'Come down here, your brother is not acting normal?' Had we been called, he would be alive today. We would have taken him to the hospital," he said.

Asked why he thought they didn't, he told CNN interviewer Piers Morgan: "Because they wanted the show to go on... It's all about -- this is a story about greed and power and money. And not looking at the person in Michael."

Murray is due in court on September 27 for the long-awaited manslaughter trial over Jackson's death in June 2009 from an overdose of the powerful drug propofol, prescribed to help him sleep.

Jermaine Jackson said the doctor's lawyers would try to paint his brother as a drug addict, but dismissed a suggestion that Jackson -- who suffered from chronic insomnia -- could have forced Murray to give him more propofol.

The drug is so powerful that it is used as an anaesthetic during surgery, he noted, adding that as a cardiologist and not an anesthesiologist, Murray "had no business giving my brother propofol."

"Being a doctor, you take an oath to care for your patient not to kill
them," he added.

Jackson's death, on the eve of the planned series of comeback concerts at London's O2 Arena aimed at reviving his reputation and finances battered by child sex allegations, stunned fans around the world.

Murray's defense team is expected to argue that Jackson gave himself an excessive dose of the drug while the doctor was out of the room at the singer's mansion in the affluent Holmby Hills neighborhood west of Los Angeles. (AFP)

Ali Zafar in London, Paris, New York

Rose Movies and producer Goldie Behl along with Fox Star studios announced their upcoming flick London, Paris, New York here on Wednesday. The film stars Pakistani musician Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao and has been directed by debut director Anu Menon.

The film is a romantic comedy and it's a story about a couple who fall in love while visiting three of the most romantic places on earth; London, Paris and New York. "The story is very fresh. We have tried our level best to make it as realistic as possible. It deals in different emotions that people experience when they're in love. It is believable because it also talks about the pain and suffering of heartbreak," said Goldie.

The title is simple and says a lot about the movie. When asked about its significance, Ali Zafar said, "The title is an integral part of the film. It provides a backdrop to the love story and helps in portraying the characters' journey of love. It's all very natural and realistic. The movie is about Nikhil and Lalitha, two very different people who fall in love."

The music of the movie has been composed by Ali Zafar himself. In fact both the stars, Ali and Aditi, sing well and have sung in the film.

The movie has some intimate scenes between the two actors. But, according to Aditi, it is very different from the usual bollywood movies. "The scenes are very organic in nature. They are there because without them the story would feel incomplete. We have not forced sex scenes anywhere just because it is believed that sex sells. The scenes are beautiful and are lovely to watch," says Aditi.

The cast and crew just got done with the London chapter and if the chemistry shared between Ali and Aditi is anything to go by, this could be something to look forward to.

Shahid Kapoor over Ranveer Singh for Sonakshi Sinha

Body Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor will come together for Sajid Nadiadwala's next project.

The yet untitled film will be directed by Sabbir Khan and is a romantic action flick. Interestingly, Sonakshi was supposed to sign a Yash Raj Films' venture with her new close friend Ranveer Singh. But the actress, deciding to keep her personal and professional separate, gave the YRF film a pass and chose the Shahid starrer instead.

A source informed Mumbai Mirror, "Sonakshi was offered a film opposite Ranveer Singh by YRF. It was supposed to be directed by Habib Faisal. However, Sonakshi has now decided to take on Sajid Nadiadwala's project instead. She has already given all her dates in January to Sajid."

Recent reports suggested that Sonakshi and Ranveer were more than just friends. The actors grew closer ever since their on-stage performance at a film awards ceremony in Toronto. "However, when it came down to her career, Sonakshi decided to opt for Shahid over Ranveer. She has given the same dates to Sajid that were required by YRF for the Ranveer starrer," added the source.

Talking about the Sajid's venture, the source added, "Sajid Nadiadwala has written the story and the screenplay of the film himself. Kambakkht Ishq director Sabbir Khan will direct it. Earlier too, Sabbir was to direct Heer Ranjha starring Shahid."

Despite repeated messages, Shahid Kapoor, Sajid Nadiadwala and Sonakshi Sinha remained unavailable for comments.

Rajinikanth's cameo RA One

In his first tryst with the camera after the bout of illness, Rajinikanth will do a guest appearance for Shah Rukh Khan in RA.One.

This will be a double whammy for millions of Rajini fans around the world, who had spent sleepless nights praying for their idol, and for SRK fans, who are waiting to see the romantic star in a never-before avatar. SRK has been maintaining that the film pays a tribute to the superstar's Robot.

Rajini will shoot in Hyderabad for a sequence that has been set in his honour, said sources close to the crew. Besides the first-ever Rajni-Shah Rukh pairing, the cameo will also mark the iconic star's return to form.

However, his family maintained that full-fledged shooting will commence only from November. "Rajini has recovered. He will resume full fledged shooting from November. Till then he will be on rest," the superstar's elder brother Satyanarayana Rao Gaekwad told this newspaper.

Sources close to the unit revealed that Rajini will shoot for the special sequence on October 4, at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. "In the sequence he will deliver his super-hit dialogue from the film Bhasha," added the source.

It is learnt that the scene has been dedicated to him and doffs a hat to his stardom and stature as an actor. Elaborating on the scene, a source said, SRK who is seen fighting a gang of villains faces another threat from a gang armed with deadly weapons.

At this critical point, Rajini makes an entry, 'Rajni Style' in a car. The super powered vehicle immediately sucks up all the weapons from the villains prompting SRK to ask Kareena, who that man in the car was. That's when Rajinikanth steps out and delivers his super- hit dialogue.

The sequence was originally meant to feature a Rajini lookalike. But SRK managed to convince the superstar to do the honours. Incidentally, RA.One will be released in Tamil and Telugu as well.

Did you know?
In July 2007, Shah Rukh Khan was signed on to play the male lead of Robot as well as be the producer for the project. In October, the same year, the deal was called off.

Rajinikanth is not the only one playing a cameo in RA.One. Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra have also made guest appearances in the film.

Sanjay Dutt sports a beefed up tattooed look in the superhero flick.

Both Dutt and Chopra play G.One's (SRK's character in the film) enemies. They are unleashed upon G.One by his main enemy RA.One (played by Arjun Rampal).

Feathers and fur fly at New York Fashion Week

NEW YORK: Michael Kors brought a taste of Africa to his spring 2012 collection Wednesday, while J Mendel brought out white furs for the penultimate day of New York Fashion Week.

The catwalk could have been called the big cat walk as Kors, in the 30th year of his label, presented "memories of Africa."

Models came out in coats, dresses, shorts and jacket that evoked the safari theme, whether in zebra stripes, leopard print, or khaki that at times seemed authentic to the point of looking dirty and beaten-up.

A leopard dress decorated with russet feathers, ponchos with African prints, Spartan sandals, snakeskin patterns, big leather belts and oversized shoulder bags -- this was a collection for the roughest and toughest of fashionistas.

Models may have been smiling at times, but there were holes in their cashmere outfits -- carefully created holes, of course.

Actor Michael Douglas sat in the first row alongside model Rosie-Huntington Whiteley and actress Zoe Saldana. Rocker Courtney Love was also taking in fashion at the Lincoln Center in central Manhattan.

Nanette Lepore splashed hot pink, yellows and oranges into her collection, building on this year's tendency for bright colors.

And while the fashion world wondered whether Madonna will finally sign with Coty to create a perfume, Norma Kamali treated onlookers to a 3D video runway show with special glasses.

There was a more classic look at J Mendel, with long black and white dresses, and plenty of bare backs.

In keeping with the traditions of the label, founded in Paris in 1870, designer Gilles Mendel threw in little sleeveless boleros of white or blue fur.

Fashion week in the Big Apple ends Friday with Marc Jacobs, who asked for a delay in his scheduled appearance because of the recent Hurricane Irene. Shows from Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein are also still on the program. (AFP)

Aditi Rao Hydari oops moment

Aditi Rao Hydari has a fashion faux pas moment, writes Nimisha Tiwari

Young actress Aditi Rao Hydari was caught unawares when her lacy white panty shone bright and all out there under her micro mini bright orange skirt.

She was attending a press conference in Mumbai to announce her forthcoming film London, Paris, New York, opposite actor Ali Zafar.

Little did this young girl expect that apart from the famous-infamous serial kissing scenes with Arunodaya Singh in her previous film Yeh Saali Zindagi, she will now be towing the line with Yana Gupta...with panties on, though.

Be careful Aditi. Nothing misses the eye of the audience, neither bad performance nor bad dressing.

Stars opt out of MJ tribute show

It was set to be the biggest tribute concert for the 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson. Now, the event is under a dark cloud as artistes who had promised to be part of the show are backing out, with even his family choosing to distance itself.

Called Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert, the show is slated to be held on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales, featuring performances by Beyonce, KISS, Cee-Lo Green, Smokey Robinson, Ne-Yo and Christina Aguilera. However, both Beyonce and KISS have now pulled out of the show. While her reps are giving her recent pregnancy as the reason, insiders reveal that Beyonce is upset that the Jackson family is divided over the show.

The show is being held close on the heels of the September 20 trial of Dr Conrad Murray, who has been charged with manslaughter in MJ's death. This has not just irked fans of the late singer, but his family as well. His brothers Jermaine and Randy recently said, "While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honours our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael's death."

Mausam delayed now releasing Sep 23

Much-talked about film " Mausam", which was scheduled for a Friday release, will now hit the screens across the globe Sep 23. The decision has been taken to avoid fragmented release, said Shahid Kapoor, who plays the lead role in the film.

"We are here to announce the changed release date of our film from Sep 16 to Sep 23. The reason for this is that we had applied for two permisions - a NOC (no objection certificate) from the IAF (Indian Air Force) and certification from the censor board. We got U-certificate from the censor board, but IAF gave us a conditional certificate because they wanted a 30-second scene from a particular sequence to be corrected," Shahid told reporters here Wednesday.

"They wanted a tiny little detail changed. Because the scene required computer graphics, even a small change requires a lot of time. That is why it took us so many days to make the correction. We got the NOC last (Tuesday) night," added the actor.

"Mausam", a romantic film, is Shahid's father Pankaj Kapoor's directorial debut and in the film Shahid plays a fighter pilot and is seen "flying" a fighter.

"Today we are ready for India release on Sep 16, but we wanted the overseas release to fall on the same date. However, when we send the prints overseas, there is a particular time before which we have to send the prints. Because we got the NOC last night, we couldn't send the overseas prints. We want the release to happen globally on the same day, so we have changed the release date to Sep 23. We don't want a fragmented release...," said Shahid.

The romantic saga will see Shahid falling in love with a Kashmiri girl, played by Sonam Kapoor.

Katrina Kaif at Mumbai Police headquarters

Katrina Kaif's first public brush with the law was when she was visited by taxmen earlier this year, but that seems to be a closed chapter now. When she alighted from her vehicle at the Mumbai Police headquarters just a few days back, it took onlookers by surprise.

Word spread like wildfire and before long every policeman in the premises was trying to figure out what sort of complaint had brought the pretty actress there. Well, your diarist has the low down.

Apparently Katrina, who is a British national, has been making a trip to the Special Branch every six months in connection with police verification for her work visa. When she first arrived in India, Deven Bharti was in charge of the SB-1 branch and would facilitate the process.

After he was promoted and took charge as the Addl Commissioner, he was replaced by Rajvardhan. Over the years, Katrina developed a rapport with both the officers.

So even after Rajvardhan subsequently moved to Economic Offences Wing as Addl Commissioner and there is a new officer in charge of SB-1 branch, Katrina makes it a point to meet both Bharti and Vardhan for a cuppa whenever she visits police headquarters. We hear many officers are busy figuring how to crash this particular tea party.

B'wood music is no longer vibrant now Atif Aslam

TOI caught up with singer-actor Atif Aslam for a chat on his debut film and why he does not care about critics ripping his songs apart

You were supposed to come for a concert to Ahmedabad some months back but we heard you had visa problems.

After 26/11 yes, we all face visa problems. I was also busy with my concerts in the US and so the Ahmedabad trip did not happen.

In your earlier interviews, you maintained that you'd never act despite receiving offers. What made you change your mind.
I got a little bored of doing the same thing. I wanted to do something different and be a part of a film that had a strong social message. Plus, I felt that given the current situation in Pakistan, everything,a film like this needed to be made. After Khuda Kay Liye, no films released in Pakistan. I want to act and sing and bring love and peace through my music and movies.

Critics sometimes accuse your music of being off key and that you would not be a great singer without the music directors?

To be very honest, when the music directors ask me to sing a particular song it is not only their song, I have given my version and my melody as well. I have performed all over the world to packed audiences. I don't have to be a trained musician to prove my singing abilities to my critics. I am playing the guitar for the last five years and know how to break into a rock song or a sad song or sing a complete commercial Bollywood song. My songs are regularly played at discs in India. I don't consider myself to be a great musician but my first album was a record hit in Pakistan. And in an industry where there was no future for pop singers, I survived, which is an example in itself.

Is crooning for Bollywood films necessary for Pakistani singers to survive?

I think Bollywood music market is going though a stagnant phase. The music is not as vibrant as it used to be earlier. It has become formula music for film directors. That's the reason why composers are looking for new sounds and voices. That's why Pakistani singers are now singing a lot of Bollywood songs. The era of RD Burman, Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi is over. If you compare their music with the Himesh Reshammiya kind of music, you know what it is all about. Personally if you ask me, the only guy who is doing well today is Pritam (Chakraborty).

What is your take on the licensing of music content on channels as well as other mediums?

Bollywood films are very big now. The reality television shows are a big hit with the masses with their Bollywood songs. Even if these TV shows are scripted people are watching them. So even if we make efforts nothing can be done to make the artists popular. Artists are doing a lot of concerts all over the world now. Even the pop music scene in Pakistan is picking up. It is difficult to categorize my music. I believe in quality of music and I would like to sing songs like Le ja tu mujhe (F.A.L.T.U)... than maybe a Tere liye (Prince) if I were to be given a choice.

Would you consider forming a band again?

Only if it is with new members! I will work on an international project with one of the ex-members of Guns 'n' Roses. I am thankful to all the people I worked with in India who have made me what I am today. The credit definitely goes to all Indians. Hopefully, I'll act in a Bollywood film also.

Rohit Shetty directs promo of Bigg Boss 5

Rohit Shetty is basking in all the glory of the success of his latest film Singham. But the director is not sitting on his laurels and the workaholic that he is, Rohit is already down to some serious work.

Rohit is busy directing actors and friends Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan in the promos of the hit TV show Bigg Boss season 5. In fact Shetty without taking a break started the shoot of the promo, the day Singham released.

Despite news doing the rounds of a spat between Sanju and Sallu at Maanyata's birthday bash last Thursday night, the duo shot for the promo with Rohit Shetty at a studio in Mumbai. It will be interesting to see what magic Rohit can create in directing the deadly duo together.

I live life on my own terms Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif will be seen as a rockstar in her forthcoming film Mere Brother Ki Dulhann. The metamorphosis of the actress, better known as the Barbie doll of Bollywood, is stark.

In her last film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Katrina was seen riding a bike. Definitely a change from the Kat who looked pretty in pink.

"I live life on my own terms. And I work on my own terms. I have always done the best I could. I am not disappointed with the glamour quotient of my earlier films," says Katrina Kaif.

However, she rather loves the new 'bindaas' image. "I am too young to not enjoy these films. This is the fun side of filmmaking. As an actress, I don't see any harm in it," reveals the actress.

But being cool too has its limits. Talking about her rockstar avatar in shorts, the actress says, "Well, they aren't mini shorts. So what's wrong? And you know what, whenever I'll wear shorts, I'll ensure that I won't wear a tight tee." And unlike most rockstars, the actress who is seen smoking in the upcoming YRF film, swears never to smoke or drink on screen again. "That's not even the last thing I'll do.

I have a responsibility towards the society. I shall never cross the line of decency, I know, this far and no further," says Kat.

Katrina however, terms her sudden change in image as growth. And giving all credit to her directors and designers Rocky S and Aki Narula, the actress agrees to the fact that people do notice her more now. "And I am thankful for that," says the actress. She also agrees that her commercial viability has increased. "Being accepted in ad films, give me a big high," she confides.

Needless to say, the change in Kat's image has helped people perceive her as more than just a pretty porcelain doll. According to ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar, "Katrina is not being recognised as an actress. Not by anybody. Not in their wildest imaginations. She has been recognised as a star.

She is an object of great desire. She is not only male fantasy, but also teenagers' fantasy. And yes, in the ad world, her position has bettered. Nobody speaks badly about her. Lucky girl, nobody saw her first film with Mr Bachchan.

Mugdha Godse is dating Tanushree's ex

When Mugdha Godse's debut film Fashion released, her boyfriend Mithun Purandare booked an entire theatre for a private screening of the film for her family and friends. This was 2 years back.

Now, things are a lot different. Mugdha formally admitted to Mumbai Mirror that she and Mithun (who Mugdha had first met while shooting for a music video in 2003) are no longer together. She added, that both of them were very young when the relationship begun and realised that they were better off as friends than as a couple.

This leggy lass has however found herself a new boyfriend. Mugdha is dating Laxmikant's grandson, filmmaker Aditya Datt. The new couple in B-Town, Mugdha Godse (left) and Aditya Datt (right)

A source close to Aditya told us, "Mugdha was atttracted to Aditya ever since she worked in his comic caper Will You Marry Me? Slowly, the two of them started hanging out together."

Added the source, "With the passage of time, they realised that they had lot in common; could not stay away from each other. Mugdha is in love with Aditya. They are in a serious relationship now."

Prior to Mugdha, Aditya was dating actress Tanushree Dutta whom he befriended when he directed the college romance Aashiq Banaya Aapne. Aditya and Tanushree parted ways on a bad note.

Despite repeated efforts, Mugdha and Aditya remained unavailable for comment.

Shahid Kapoor is Ekta Kapoor's chhota rajan

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Part 2 just got bigger. After casting Akshay Kumar as Dawood, the older version of Emraan Hashmi's character in the first part, producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria met up with Shahid Kapoor and asked him to play Chhota Rajan, Dawood's best man turned rival in the film.

The film, that goes on floors early next year, was launched amidst much fanfare at an award function during Diwali last year. A rough image of Akshay Kumar's look in the film was also unveiled during the event. However, the hunt for the other leading men and women for the film was still on.

While there were speculations about the choice of actress to play the role of Dawood's girl Mandakini in the film, nothing so far had been said about the other male lead. "The role of Chhota Rajan is as intense as the one Shahid Kapoor portrayed in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey. He is a very good actor who has portrayed a wide range of characters till date. He is one of the top choices to play Chhota Rajan," revealed a source.

Akshay will pick up from where Emraan Hashmi left off in the first part. He will take his character forward. Shahid will be the new entrant in the story. "Where there's Dawood, there has to be his arch-rival Chhota Rajan. Shahid has been asked to play a very long and key role in the film," added the source.

However, Ekta's attempt at pulling off a casting coup for the project may face a few hitches. Kareena is said to be one of the leading contenders for the role of Dawood's lover Mandakini, one might wonder whether the actress or Shahid would want to work together again, considering the two did not even want to dub for their film Milenge Milenge together. But then again, Kareena reportedly, has no problem working with Shahid anymore.

Our source said, "Milan had long meetings with Shahid. He explained him the script and the character. Akshay is currently working out to get the rugged look required for him to play Dawood. Shahid too will require to work on his Chhota Rajan avatar."

Katrina Kaif beats Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor

She talks about being the only actress in the Top 10 of the Zoom Supernova list

What do you attribute your enviable position in the industry to?

Luck and being honest and sincere about work has worked for me and helped me reach where I am. You don't really know how your film is going to turn out, but you can give it your best shot and hope the audience loves it. This has been my approach right from the beginning and it's helped me a lot in my journey.

All you can do is give the film your everything. I think what has also worked is that I have been able to relate to the characters I have played. Maybe, deep down the audience has connected to these roles and liked them.

Who do you consider your fan base?

I would like to believe it transcends all ages and barriers. I look forward to meeting fans during promotions when I travel across the country. It's humbling to see their love and support.

Also I look out for tips that some give me. Like if they don't like something I did or loved a particular role or scene, I try to keep that in mind as a reference point in the future. It's always nice to get feedback from your fans.

What kind of films excite you?

I make an attempt to do different kinds of films. There's no such formula for guaranteed success. Like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara worked because of sheer sincerity.

How important are your fans?

I want to thank them for giving me so much love and acceptance, even with my flaws, be it my diction or anything else. They have stood by me and always believed in my work. I will keep doing work that won't ever let my fans down.

Ameesha Patel signs Priyadarshan as second director

Reviving family entertainment films and bringing back 'fun' days is what Ameesha Patel's production house strives to extend to the audience. And after announcing David Dhawan as the first director, Priyadarshan has been chosen as the second director on board for another project.

Naturally, Ameesha and her business partner Kuunal Goomer are ecstatic about making two films, both of which will go on floors by the year end, directed by two of the most talented directors in India.

"I will play the lead in both these films. With a family-based storyline, good music and directors like David and Priyan working on them, the films are bound to connect with the 6-80 years age group," promises Ameesha.

Incidentally, Patel and Priyan had decided to work together after BhoolBhulaiya which went on to become a hit. Ameesha was approached for Billoo but the role finally went to Lara Dutta, as Priyan felt Ameesha looked too young to play a mother of two kids opposite Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Now, the team is back together and Priyan has planned a big ensemble cast for the new film.

There's a strong buzz about Patel's actor-producer work profile as a big fat amount now rides on her petite shoulders. Apart from David and Priyan'sfilms, there's also Chatur Singh Two Star opposite Sanjay Dutt and another big budget film opposite a big star. "I am going to be in front of the camera and will also help with production work. Kuunal will look after the business aspect of these projects. I feel privileged to work with David and Priyan and really couldn't have asked for more."

Salman Khan's bodyguard dances to his tunes

Salman Khan has taken the subject of his film Bodyguard literally. First, the actor made his off-screen bodyguard, Shera, unveil the first look of the film.

Now, he has decided to feature Shera in the film's soundtrack video. When contacted, Shera said, "Yes, I am currently shooting for the song. Yeh sab kuch chamatkar se kam nahi hai mere liye.

Salman bhai is such a huge star and for someone like him showing such trust in me is nothing short of a miracle. In front of the whole world, he said that this is my most trusted man.

Isn't that great?" Shera also told Mumbai Mirror that he is apprehensive about the dance. "Salmanbhai just showed me some steps and I am rehearsing for that.

It is scary and I am nervous. I have given a couple of interviews in the past, but I am better off behind the camera." added Shera.

When asked about Salman's comment about the doom the actor would face if Shera ever wrote a book on him, Shera said, "Never. This is one thought which has never occurred to me. I cannot break his trust. He said all these things in jest and I would like to keep it that way."

Karisma Kapoor in Satte Pe Satta

After failing to convince Vidya Balan and then Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play the female lead in his remake of Satte Pe Satta, Soham Shah seems to have finally found his lady to fill in Hema Malini's shoes.

Sanjay Dutt, the producer and the lead actor of the project asked Karisma Kapoor to step in as the heroine. Karisma is reading the script and is very much interested in doing the film, revealed sources.

The source added, "Sanjay wants a very Indian looking girl. After Aishwarya refused to work in the film despite Dutt trying hard to convince her, Dutt had approached his Lagey Raho Munnabhai costar Vidya Balan. She too had declined the offer.

A few days before he spoke to Vidya, Dutt had spoken to Karisma who at the time had clearly told him that she was not interested in making a comeback."

However, since then, Karisma changing her mind about returning to Bollywood, signed on Vikram Bhatt's project Dangerous Ishq. Sanjubaba, realising that Karisma was now serious about her comeback, approached the actress again. This time, Karisma showed keen interest in the project. She is expected to inform Dutt about her decision by next week.

Abhishek Bachchan avoids clash with Shah Rukh Khan's Don 2

Despite the moderate success of Dum Maaro Dum, Abhishek Bachchan is not so confident about facing Shah Rukh Khan.

Viacom 18 wanted to release their ambitious Abhishek starrer Players against SRK's humungous Don 2 during the Christmas weekend, but apparently, the actor requested them to postpone the release of the film. It seems he doesn't want to pitch the film into any hurdle like that.

Players, an official remake of Italian Job, is Abbas Mustan's first film after Race. It is also a very important film for Abhishek, considering his drooping career. "While Players is one of the most expensive movies he has been a part of, he is hoping for a big turn in his career. Needless to say, he wants the film to have the best of chances," says the source.

So in all probability, Players will release early next year. "The month of December is pretty packed with big films, both from Hollywood and Bollywood. Agent Vinod is aiming for an early December release and then there are films like Mission Impossible 4 and Sherlock Holmes, prequels of which have done extremely well in India. And all these are action thrillers too," adds the source.

However, Viacom 18 officials preferred not to respond to our queries.

Players has been directed by Abbas Mustan and also stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sikandar Kher, Aftab Shivdasani, Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu.

Sepianotes Shashi Kapoor, Neetu Singh at an event

The film that released in 1981, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah was launched at Raj Kamal Studios on September 19, 1974.

And this picture of the lead actors Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor and Neetu Singh along with director Ashok Roy, financer Gulshan Rai and guest V Shantaram was clicked at the very event by lensman Jagdish Aurangabadkar.

The only thing that really stands out in this picture is Shashi Kapoor's enthusiasm to play his character in the film. The actor, unlike his co-stars came fully dressed as the man his character Anand impersonates in the film. Wow!

His leading lady Neetu Singh (aka Rekha in the film), who also happens to be his nephew's wife in real life, Kapoor seems to be enjoying the event way more than the rest of the people in frame. Leaving, of course guest V Shantaram, who too is seen displaying his pearlies.

Vinod Khanna, the bandana-ed hero of the film is bereft of his leading lady Zarina Wahab. Probably the reason why we don't see him smiling here.

While many may remember the movie for it's interesting helicopter sequence, wherein a road roller is used to pull the airborne craft down, this picture encapsulates the day it all started.

Salman Khan in Hema Malini's next

Salman Khan is the actor who's been touted as having a magic wand. With a Midas touch the actor is giving one hit after another and thus it's no surprise that he's one of the most sought after actors these days.

Almost all the film makers want a piece of teh pie and want Salman to be part of their project. Yesteryear actor Hema Malini is no different who approached Khan to be part of her ambitious project Tell Me Oh Khuda. And the best part is that Salman has consented to act in the dream girl's film.

Hem, who is a recent entratnt on twitter, tweeted about this and wrote, "Salman Khan has been very gracious to be a part of my film "Tell Me O Khuda".

What an adorable person!!!!" So we can look forward to another of Salman Khans blockbuster courtesy Hema Malini...

Anushka Sharma shares her secret

Simi Garewal is an extremely gracious host who makes actors feel totally comfortable. She anchored the talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, which ruled TV chat shows for ten years.

She made a comeback this year with 'Simi Selects India's Most Desirable" on Star World which is being avidly watched and talked about! What has caught every one by surprise is its novelty factor. Everyone is discussing how diametrically different it is from Rendezvous with Simi Garewal and it boasts of single eligible desirable guests like Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Abhay Deol and Siddarth Mallaya.

This week's guest is Anushka Sharma who debuted in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shahrukh Khan. She mentioned that she was reading the book called "The Secret" when she auditioned for the film.

Anushka says, "What happened is I used to listen to this thing when the movie starts there is this logo of Yashraj comes so I used to keep watching it again and again. It was like aaaa (sings) so when the film started and that logo played first and I was like wow...

it actually happened. Shahrukh Shan introducing Anushka. She adds, "There was this one time when I was in Bombay and when this film happened and when I was driving back from Yashraj studios, I got the news Adi told me. I couldn't drive any more because I was crying so I stopped the car and pulled over and I called my mother and you know I told her that

I got this film and you know what my mother told me. That there was this turtle that used to be there in my room I think its some Feng Shui thing you open the turtle and you put a wish in the turtle.

And when it comes true you take it out. So she never told me about this. But when she came down after I got the film she opened that and she showed it to me and she had written it there that I hope that my daughter stars in a Yashraj film. I swear. It's unbelievable, I think somewhere she always wanted me to be an actress".

Well all those girls who want to make it big in career can follow "The Secret".

I am not engaged Abhay Deol

It started out as one of the many speculated link-ups in Bollywood, but after his professional high post Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Abhay Deol has decided it's time to speak up about his clandestine romance with Ms Britain, Preeti Desai.

The couple's relationship has frequently been examined by the media. And so, the actor spoke to Mumbai Mirror to dispel all the speculations and set the record straight once and for all. "There have been speculations which questioned if I was dating her or if I was not, if we are engaged or not. But, I am not engaged," revealed Abhay.

As rumours of their relationship spread like wildfire, so did the ones about their break up. When asked if being on the media radar all the time has affected his relationship, Abhay said, "Speculations lead to a lot of stories in the media, which are entirely untrue. I am very happy where I am and I am not denying that I am in a relationship and that's as much as I can share. I find it normal for people to ask all these questions.

The media has been very good in reporting about our relationship by stating that I want to keep it personal and that's how I prefer it, as it's my personal life after all. If I start sharing my personal life, then it won't be personal at all. Since I am in the public space, it is granted that the media would be involved. However, everybody around me knows about our relationship and so, it would be silly of me to deny the fact that I am dating her."

Interestingly, just when Abhay has attracted a major female fan following, after his role in ZNMD, he has knocked himself off the eligible bachelor list. And so, when asked if the confirmed news of his relationship will turn the ladies off, Abhay candidly replied, "I had female fan following after Dev.D too but that was when I played a bad guy. With ZNMD, I portrayed the good boy. It's like a full circle. When you ask if I will break hearts, I do not think so as people will still have their fantasies. In fact this adds to it.

Hrithik is married with kids but that has not taken away any of his female fan following. There is a certain attraction towards married men with kids. If the attraction is there, then it will remain and if it is not there, it will never be there."

While the actor has admitted to his relationship, he is reluctant to give it a label. "We haven't made too many public appearances, just two. One was at Ekta Kapoor's party and another was at a magazine party. We have already been seeing each other for a while. However, we are not people who like to define the relationship or put it in a box. But the world does. So, okay let's call it a relationship. She is happy, I am happy so why not?"

Plans for Jackson tribute show ignite family row

LOS ANGELES: Michael Jackson's mother and four siblings announced Monday plans for a star-studded tribute concert for the late pop icon, but the show was blasted as "ill-timed" by two other Jacksons.

Jermaine and Randy Jackson said the family should be concentrating on the upcoming manslaughter trial of their brother's doctor, which will be going on in Los Angeles when the planned show is staged in Britain in October.

The Michael Forever show is set for October 8 in Cardiff, Wales, and will be broadcast to 30 countries around the world, said his mother Katherine Jackson, sister La Toya and brothers Tito, Marlon and Jackie.

"The world's greatest performing artists" will play at the show, according to its website, although promoter Chris Hunt declined to name names, saying they will announce artists at another press conference in London on August 3.

Jackson's mother said "as many members of my family that are available" will be at the concert, adding: "Michael gave his entire life to the world through his love, his music and his devotion to healing the planet.

"I am positive that this event will be an event great enough in scale, talent and imagination to form a worthy celebration of Michael's life," she said at a press conference in Beverly Hills.

But Randy and Jermaine Jackson -- who tried but failed to organize a tribute show after Jackson's 2009 death -- blasted the timing of the new show, which will coincide with the September manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor.

"While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael's death," they said.

Doctor Conrad Murray, charged with manslaughter for giving the singer an overdose of powerful sedative propofol, is due to go on trial with opening statements on September 20, less than three weeks before the Cardiff concert.

"In light of this, we feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event and its promoter, Global Live," said Jermaine and Randy Jackson in a statement.

"Furthermore, the decision to proceed with this concert disrespects opinions and wishes expressed in the strongest terms to Global Live during conversations in April when this event was presented to the majority of the family."

Global Live chief Chris Hunt defended the Cardiff plans, saying they would be "worthy of Michael's musical genius ... something fun and authentic that you would envision Michael attending with excitement and joy."

Tickets for the concert in the 75,000-seat Millennium Stadium in Cardiff -- with a fully retracting roof the biggest indoor venue in Europe, according to the organizers -- will go on sale online on August 4, they added.

The concert will raise money for charities including Prince Charles' Prince's Trust in Britain, and the AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). (AFP)

Imran Khan's stylish tribute to three Khans

MUMBAI: Imran Khan matched steps of three illustrious Khans — Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman — in his next release, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. The title track of the film will see him imitating the signature moves of the trio in the song, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan…

Matrimonial Ki Aankhen… composed by Sohail Sen and shot over three days.

Imran, who features in the Yash Raj Films project opposite Katrina Kaif, shot for the peppy song in Mumbai, New Delhi and Dehradun.

It will begin with Aamir’s famous Aati Kya Khandala… from Ghulam (1998), with a bit of Rang De Basanti (RDB, 2006) thrown in.

Next, Salman is idolised in his classic ‘belt hook’ avatar from Dabangg (2010) and later SRK on a train in Dil Se (1998).

But the actor admits it wasn’t a smooth ride. The train would slow down or speed up suddenly, and bounce along the tracks.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, another Yash Raj production also features Pakistani actor-musician Ali Zafar, and is slated to release on September 9.

The film marks the directorial debut of Ali Abbas Zafar.

Salman, Katrina team up for 'Bodyguard' item song

Rakesh waits five years for his son Hrithik

Rakesh Roshan forced to wait for five years for his superstar son

Rakesh Roshan now 61 has been one of the most prolific and successful filmmakers in contemporary Bollywood. His list of hits include some huge successes like Karan Arjun, Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, Khoon Bhari Maang and

Khudkarz. However since his son Hrithik made a splash as an actor in 2000 with Kaho Na pyaar hai...Rakesh has decided to direct only his son. After making super-duper hits with his son in KNPH, Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish(2006), Rakesh let Duggu(Hrithik) have his way

and allowed Anurag Basu to direct Kites(2010) for their home banner. Kites came unstuck and though Rakesh had indulged his son, he realised that he would soon have to pick up the pieces

of their home banner Filmkraft and make another film with Hrithik,'' say sources. Krrish-3 will start in 2011 end or early 2012 at Ramoji Film City Hyderabad. However Rakesh one of the biggest filmmakers of our time has lost five years waiting for his son! It is indeed a big sacrifice for a filmmaker. In a sense the filmmaker lost out to the father.

Salman Khan is boss No.1

There's a fierce sense of loyalty that emanates from every word that he says. It is no wonder then that Shera, Salman Khan most trusted aide, launched the first look of the latter's film Bodyguard with much fanfare recently.

While Shera admitted that he was touched by this gesture, he also confessed, "This was a total surprise. I was going about my work at the promotional activity as usual and suddenly I am told by Salman Khan that I have to launch the promo. I was like 'Main?' and boss said 'Haan tum!' But, what he did after that which was to tell people about how much my work and I mean to him - was what touched me immensely."

With the star saying that he'll be finished if Shera decides to write a book, ask Shera if he's ever been tempted to bare it all and he says, "I've never been tempted ever! Honestly. I have always believed in doing my job and my boss Salman Khan is No.1. I can never let him down!"

With the duo redefining the star-bodyguard relationship, isn't he worried that their ties will ever be strained? He smiles and says, "I've been with Salman Khan for almost 15 years now and I don't interfere in his work and he lets me do my job. It's worked thus far and will continue to do so in the future, I am sure."
