Bollywood gears up for the Indo-Pak match

2.30pm, 31st March 2011, Mohali: Billions of people, one game and just one resounding chant reverberating across the nation: `Chak De India'.

With the World Cup fever at its highest peak the `mahayudh' between India and its Pakistani opponents begins in Mohali in sometime.

And like everyone, Bollywood too has taken a day off from their shoots and are glued to their TV sets cheering for our boys. Bipasha Basu , who'll be watching the match from home with family and friends is sure that, "our fabulous team India, with a great captain like M S Dhoni" will win the match. "I already took a picture of me with the World Cup in Nagpur. Sachin, Suresh Raina, Sehwag, Mahi and now Yuvraj ... all have been excelling. I want Sachin to score 100 in this match and than I will throw a party," promises the Bong beauty.

Vidya Balan has decided to put her mobile off and enjoy the Indo-Pak semi final with family, just like Sanjay Dutt who'll be watching it in Macau. "Riteish is on the job of finding a place for us to watch it. We are all ready and hope the boys are ready to strike it hard. Go India," screams Baba. Wife Manyata is a hardcore soccer fan, but she doesn't shy away from the cricket fever, "I am not a cricket fan, but the euphoria is infectious. I'll pray that our boys bring the cup home".

Katrina Kaif also wishes team India and hopes that our boys give their Pakistani opponent a match worth remembering for a lifetime. "Get home the cup boys," she urges.

Riteish Deshmukh , who is in Macau, is busy hunting for a place to go and watch the match with his co-stars Arshad Warsi, Mallika Sherawat, and Sanjay Dutt. We will raid some Indian restaurant. Hoping to do a double `Dhamal' there".

Akshay Kumar cheers our boys and hopes that Sachin Tendulkar proves his formidable self and scores a ton. "That will be an absolute icing on the cake. We are all waiting".
As the time for the battle draws closer, cricket fans and skeptics, for once sing the same tune Go India go.

Aamir, Salman may watch India-Pak match together

Well, it's a big day tomorrow, and while some actors, like Shah Rukh Khan are inviting friends over to catch the semi final match of the cricket World Cup between India and Pakistan, talks are that Aamir Khan, who was to host a 'match party', too, but now we hear that he will be seated in the VVIP box at the Mohali stadium.

Never mind, Aamir, SRK, the big question now is, what is our Dabangg actor planning to do on Wednesday as India takes on Pakistan in the cricket World cup semi-finals. While some were of the opinion that 'bhai was going to join Aamir at his home', another close source confirms that Salman has no elaborate plans.

"He will be watching the match at home. Salman Khan's is one big, happy family, and when they are together it's always a celebration. They know how to have a good time. Salman will watch the match with his dad!"

It's great to watch all and sundry stop their 'action' to catch some cricket action.

Imran's building an eco-friendly home

24 Pali Hill is one of the most iconic addresses in Mumbai. It is the home of one of yesteryear's most entertaining filmmakers — Nasir Hussain and currently the residence of his daughter Nuzhat and grandson Imran Khan.

It is perhaps the latest of the Pali Hill bungalows to go in for a renovation. Imran who is staying with his in-laws, the Malliks, at an apartment in the same locality admits that his bungalow is getting a facelift.

A source informs that the actor's home is being remodelled to get an additional wing that will accommodate the newly-weds Imran and Avantika, "The new structure will not be a highrise because the Break Ke Baad actor doesn't wish to hurt the topography of the area. However it will have a manicured lawn, a huge swimming pool, a theatre, a game court and also a windmill."

The actor himself had admitted earlier that he is keen on solar energy and even the tiles chosen are eco-friendly. The architect who designed Andhra superstar Nagarjuna's house in Hyderabad is the same one who is re-doing Imran's place.

Says Imran, "The need of the hour is to be sensitive to the environment. We want a green earth and each of us must take solid steps in that direction. While I don't wish to actually give away every minute detail of what my new bungalow will have because it will spoil the fun, all I can is that it will be environment-friendly."

Anushka Sharma's bad hair day

Anushka's all set to be the tantrum queen of B-Town. The BBB girl was shooting for an ad and did not come out of her vanity van for six hours because she wasn't happy with how her hair was looking.

The four-film-old actress is fast gaining a reputation for being difficult. Really, she should learn something from the ultra professional actresses like Katrina, Deepika etc.. Especially if she's looking to replace them in their personal and professional space. Right, Ranbir?

Salman to appear in KJo's show

Karan Johar is wooing Salman Khan. And has succeeded to an extent. It is learnt that the actor has agreed to be part of Karan's TV show in its third season.

The last time KJo asked him to sit on the infamous couch, the actor said he would do it only if he was given Rs 50 lakh for his charity foundation. The My Name Is Khan director told him that the channel wouldn't pay but he would be happy to shell out the money from his own pocket. However, the talks fizzled out.

Now KJo who is shooting the final few episodes for this season, asked Salman for the last time if he would appear on the show, and the temperamental actor said he would do it, and also gave temporary dates for the shoot, either 30th or 31st March. Apparently, Karan and the channel have donated over Rs 50 lakh to Salman's charity foundation. Incidentally, no other guest on the show has been paid for making an appearance.

According to sources, the filmmaker has also offered a role to the actor, which he is considering. This is interesting because so far Khan who lives in Galaxy has been wary of Karan because of his friendship to the Khan who lives in Mannat. Now that the director has managed to get Sallu to say yes to the show, and a 'maybe' to the film, next step is a patch between the warring Khans? Let's hope so.

Aamir Khan flying to Mohali

While the rest of the media has been reporting that Aamir Khan is taking on his arch rival Shah Rukh Khan by throwing a cricket bash at his house at the same time when SRK is having a bash at Mannat.

Fact is that Aamir has cancelled the shooting of Reema Kagti's untitled movie and is flying down to Mohali to see the high octane India-Pakistan cricket match live. Remember you read it here first!

Shah Rukh has also cancelled all his appointments to watch the Indo-Pak match with his close friends. The guest list includes Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay and wife Maheep Kapoor, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey.

Shilpa-Preity are friends again

Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta have buried whatever differences that had crept in between them after the two became owners of two IPL franchises.

Most importantly, they have become friends again and behave like giggly school girls whenever they meet each other. The two actresses had distanced themselves after a misunderstanding.

Apparently PZ had asked someone from the industry how SS manages to wear expensive designer wear, bags and jewellery, and enquired about Raj Kundra's financial status.

Wasn't long before Zinta's singer reached Shilpa's ears, who retaliated by asking who was supporting her. Everyone thought words would be exchanged whenever the two fiery girls crossed paths.

But recently they were together on a long flight together, and they sorted out all the differences. Now, two hot actresses-turned-team owners have learnt how to handle awkward situations. So proud of them. Cat fights are for newbies.

Saif doesn't regret being wild

Most interviews with Saif Ali Khan feature Kareena Kapoor, quite prominently. But Saif's journey from the geek in glasses to 90s' Bollywood star kid, to 'hey, he can act!', to producer and father of two, is a fascinating story, rarely discussed.

After this long and candid chat, though, Saif laughingly issued something of a disclaimer, saying, "Just because you're good at being an actor, it doesn't qualify you to be an expert on anything else.

But we tend to wax eloquent often, on life and politics, and people listen, because we're successful sometimes, and they won't contradict it unless there's a bigger star who'll tell you to shut up! It's very important to remember that."

So in his cut-through-cheese diction, attractively sprinkled with a slight English accent, this is Saif Ali Khan waxing eloquent on his life and work.

You're shooting your home production "Agent Vinod" in Delhi, "Love Aaj Kal", which you produced, was also set here...
"Love Aaj Kal" was shot here because Imtiaz (Ali, the director) is from Delhi, and I think part of the romance of coming back to Delhi from England, rather than Mumbai, suited our story, so we set it in Delhi, and it had that feeling of shaadis in winter and all that... There's a distinct feel to Delhi, and Imtiaz likes the vibe here, the open spaces, the parks. "Agent Vinod" is being shot here because Delhi is the seat of government. The film is geo-politically as accurate as we could make it. We tried to think of big problems for Agent Vinod to deal with, and the biggest, the most sensitive, and closest to home we could think of involved something in Delhi. He's saving the world, but he's doing it in Delhi. If something goes wrong here, the subcontinent would be in trouble. This place has a mixture of a sense of grandeur and raajneeti – if you shoot a convoy of cars amid the buildings that have that political power and majesty about them. Also, like any big city, it has a slightly seedier underbelly, like the Kashmere Gate area, where we can also shoot crucial stuff, and Old Delhi, with its beautiful Mughal influences, which is a very cinematic place – we're here to capture all three. We're also shooting at Nirula's in CP, but with Army helicopters, which I've never seen before.

If people were to watch your films from the 90s, it might make some cringe...
(Chuckles) It makes me cringe also a little bit sometimes, but only up to a point. But seriously, I watch it and I think I worked very hard. I was laboriously dancing away in various songs. The high jeans, the hair, I know – I think cinema, particularly with changing trends and (thanks a lot) cable TV and satellite rights that pay us now (I'm saying sarcastically), serves as a reminder of our fashion bloopers. They'll always come back to haunt us. But it reminds us of the hard work we've done.

I think it's only very recently that Hindi films have become quite cool and we've become fashion-wise quite competent, internationally. Earlier, there was a class divide among people who watched Hindi cinema, it wasn't considered for everybody. I think it's become more pan-Indian now. Nobody now says 'What, Bollywood movies?' That was when people were associated with white-suit producers – people used to say producers are like that. Now we're the producers, and we're quite hip (grins).

The word 'slump' is sometimes used to describe that period in your work, from 90s till "Dil Chahta Hai" – is that correct?
I think so, yes. I started out not so great, in "Parampara". "Aashiq Awara" was okay, "Yeh Dillagi" was good – my first hit, great music, sweet love story, and that secured me a bit. "Main Khiladi..." was immediately afterwards, and that was wonderful. Then there was a massive slump of about 17 bad movies, with just enough to keep you around. Then came "DCH", that moment where the dialogues in Hindi films changed, and sensibilities changed, and Farhan Akhtar ushered in a slightly new, urban character who didn't have to be a version of an Amitabh Bachchan character to be a Hindi film hero – up until then, there was still a hangover of that 70s superstar stereotype. People enjoyed "DCH". It was also a disciplined atmosphere – other people in the industry used to laugh at us for how organised we were.

Why did they laugh at you?
They just thought – like people do – that we're too cool. Everyone had walkie-talkies, and there was pin drop silence and you could hear each other breathe. You could hear your own spit being swallowed. And then you start speaking at true tones. That's what actually cinema can be about – what it is about for Excel and Farhan, and what it should be about for Illuminati – but it's the directors who set that tone. On the other hand, you should also, as a Hindi film actor, be able to work in chaotic circumstances. It's a very diverse industry, you have to be able to cope with various environments. Some are international, some noisy, for lack of a better word...

Was the set of "Omkara" also like that?
There's a whole section of the industry which is Vishal's (Bharadwaj) domain. I'm glad they promote this rural, rugged cinema, which is the closest we can come to a Western. Films like "Ishqiya" – noir kind of movies. The small town kind of dialogues that Vishal writes – he's a representative of a school of Indian thought and values. In "Omkara", he condensed an entire scene once, by removing all the dialogues, and he boiled it down to one action – the one in which I break a mirror and anoint myself with my blood. But there was a dialogue there, a whole scene, me saying that I've been scorned and I'll take revenge and all that. He said, 'You don't need to say that, what you do is you look at yourself in the mirror, and do that thing with the gulaal.' He wanted me to do it naked, I said I'll do it naked if you direct me naked, and he refused, but that was what he did to that scene. It spoke a thousand words – it's a mark of genius. Who thinks of that? I have to respect that.

With films like "Omkara" and "Being Cyrus" that there was a second shift – from cute, goofy lover boy to 'an actor'...
I think I didn't trust myself also. And it takes a maker to sometimes trust an actor to see something... and now, I think it's important once to associate with roles that are not in the least associated with you – characters like Langda Tyagi, "Being Cyrus", or like in the movie "Aarakshan", more importantly, a Scheduled Caste teacher from a basti whose mother irons clothes for a living. Like the Sikh in "Love Aaj Kal", I wouldn't have ever thought of myself playing a Sikh. But it is fun to put yourself in scenarios that are out of your comfort zone.

Why did you agree to do "Being Cyrus" – a noir, English language film?
I have no idea. Homi (Adajania, the director) came up to me and told me the story, and I thought I wanted to have a career that's based on interesting choices, and not following... We in the film industry live in a superstitious and a slightly frightened environment. People would say, don't get a vanity van, it was supposed to be bad luck for your career. Or don't change your hair... But it's not just the industry – I think we're a superstitious country, with the concept of nazar and everything – we're very aware of the supernatural. I do what I want to do, that's all. I'm not trying to make point with that. I just thought it'd be nice to have a mixed bag of films in your repertoire – body of work – that's varied and interesting.

You're wearing glasses (huge tortoiseshell ones). Are they for effect, or are they real?
I find it amusing to wear spectacles for effect. The effect, in my case, is the required effect of magnifying my vision, it's not cosmetic. I've had glasses since perhaps I was 12 or something. I wore them during my films as well, just not on camera. I look very intelligent when I wear specs, I got voted into all the societies in school when they had those orientation things. I looked like a brainy Indian scientist, and it took them a couple of days to realise that I'm academically, like, challenged. I had these National Health glasses that the English government gives you for free, but they're not very attractive.

You were apparently into literature in school?
Yes, yes, it was my favourite subject, that and history and art history. I was completely uninterested in Math. I have an aversion to figures of that sort. Thank God it's over! I look at Sara (his daughter) working sometimes, and I shudder. In "Aarakshan", I have to write these 'equations' on the board – and oh God, I was getting annoyed just doing it! I had to learn them and explain them. I teach Maths in the film – yeah, it's pretty ironic.

At school and later, you're also rumoured to have been something of a wild guy...?
That's probably true. Actually, if you go back a little bit, we're an extremely traditional Muslim family, and a very serious one at that. We haven't been brought up like that at all – we're very secular and extremely cosmopolitan and easy-going because my father is, and my mother has also brought us up like that. Even they have an inter-religious marriage – I think they just look at it as a marriage, nothing else comes into it. But I think it's exposure to England early that led to me being a little rebellious and a little... doing the sort of thing that nobody much in my family had done, really, because most of the family was brought up in this traditional academically Islamic environment.
Soha also has been exposed to England, but Saba's very religious and... I'm telling you, most of them in our family are very religious people! But that's how young people... I'm not regretful.

After your health trouble, you've become pretty fit...
In fact, I recently got this MRI done. I wanted to because I was watching Charlie Sheen in " Two And A Half Men" (there's a series where his fast-living character has a heart attack, and fears that he doesn't have much time left), and he was doing a battery of tests. My doctor says I have the lungs of a non-smoking athlete. I haven't smoked for the past two years since that terrible scare, which was the best thing that happened to me, and with yoga and diet... I don't eat much red meat, since I'm trying to be fit. My doctor says there are no heart issues, the arteries are rocking.

After living that life, how did you take fatherhood?
I think it was the greatest thing in the world to see Sara being born, and Ibrahim. I think it comes naturally to human beings – when you see a little baby that's yours – to take to it.
But the most beautiful thing about it is, when they grow up to share the same values as you. That's an amazing feeling. Like, Ibrahim doesn't agree with the death penalty. He discusses it with me. He'd like to have one girlfriend only. I'm not sure if he's going to manage that last one, though. But I admire his purity.

Your relationships are discussed very widely in the media, your work is very demanding, and you're separated from the mother of your kids. Have you had to work harder to ensure that your children have a life away from all these pressures in life?
I'm sure we would all have preferred it had life been more disciplined – one imagines like a family unit where there isn't this kind of separation for children – but I'm quite comfortable with myself, in the sense that my kids have all my love and attention. And that's what's most important – a connection with my children. To laugh with Ibrahim or to talk to Sara, and have her come and visit me on the sets in Bhopal... She wants to go to New York.

She's 16 now – aren't you worried about boyfriends?
No, she talks to me about them. We talk a lot. It's very important to make time, and the most important thing is that connection. When I've given a proportionate amount of time to my children, my work, my parents, and my relationship.

When there's an imbalance, I feel a discomfort, and sometimes I attain this magical balance. Most of the time I'm struggling to attain it while I'm working, and I think that's my life. I think I've explained it beautifully to you.

Bollywood takes day off for Indo-Pak match

All eyes and attention have shifted to the impending India – Pakistan cricket match where the two teams will take on each other to reach the World Cup finals.

It sure is going to be an interesting match with two of the strongest contenders coming face to face on the green pitch at Mohali. Many cricket aficionados have already started planning their Wednesday to fit and finish their work to get free in time for the match and our Bollywood celebs are not behind.

Most of our stars have decided to be off work on Wednesday and also planned about where and with whom they'll watch the match. We take you through some Wednesday diaries.

Aamir Khan – Kiran Rao: The couple initially had planned to stay away from work and cozy up at their home to watch the match with a bucket full of hot and crunchy pop-corn for company. However, as a last minute change in plan, they decided to throw in a little party at their pad, inviting their closest friends to enjoy the match together.

We also hear that Aamir has advanced the shoot timing of his film with Reema Kagti. He will now shoot from 10 am to 2 pm to be in time to catch the match. His pals from Lagaan team are expected to accompany him.

Shah Rukh Khan: King Khan has invited his close friends Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal and others to watch the India – Pakistan match at Mannat on Wednesday.

Salman Khan: Though the Khan hasn't planned anything special about the match as yet, sources have it that he might be heading to Aamir's house to catch the most awaited India vs. Pakistan clash.

Asin: The actress cannot thank her stars enough. Asin has been shooting in Bangkok for a while now for her film Ready. But the schedule is wrapped up and she is back in India and in time to witness the match. The beautiful dame is looking forward to watching the match with her family comprising cricket fans.

Kareena Kapoor: The gorgeous Kapoor will be shooting for Reema Kagti's film with Aamir and as has been decided, the shoot will be over by 2 pm sparing her time to enjoy the match. The actress may join Aamir and gang at his house party directly after the shoot gets over.

Akshay Kumar: The actor planned to watch the action live in Mohali with his cricket crazy kid Aryan in tow. However, as he will be unable to make it to the field, Akshay along with the two important Sajids in his life - Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala will watch the match at his house.

Aftab Shivdasani: The actor who has been busy of late shooting for his film Bin Bulaye Baarati says that he and his crew have finally managed to convince the makers of the film to let them off to watch the Indo-Pak cricket match on Wednesday.

Ayesha Takia: The actress has been away from home for around 2 months now as she was shooting in Ooty for Nagesh Kukunoor's film. However, she reached Mumbai today. The actress missed being with her husband Farhan Azmi on Valentine's Day and even on their wedding anniversary (March 1) but the couple plans to celebrate by watching the India-Pakistan match with family and close friends.

Ajay Devgn: Sadly, as Ajay is in between the shoot schedule of Singham in Goa, he can't take the day off to watch India play Pakistan. However, he has requested dear friend and director Rohit Shetty to wind up shoot soon so that the entire cast and crew can watch the match together.

Elizabeth Taylor classic beauty in every sense

Elizabeth Taylor was the antithesis of today's Hollywood fashion icon, who is eager to be seen as an everywoman. She was always dressed like a movie star: hair done, makeup on and lots of jewelry. Never would you see Taylor in jeans and a T-shirt.

And while she was famous for her Oscars, iconic roles and many husbands, she was most renowned for her beauty - the violet, almond-shaped eyes, creamy skin, pouty lips and raven hair. She died Wednesday at 79 from congestive heart failure.

"She was incredibly beautiful, funny, smart, charming and super-glamorous," said designer Michael Kors. "In today's world, people who combine all of those attributes with a big life in the public eye and a big talent are few and far between. One of a kind means just that - there is just one."

The public saw her mature from a young curly haired tomboy in "National Velvet" to the sultry "Cleopatra." Yet no matter the time, place or role, her glamour was consistent, and that was inspiring to women, even if they could never quite replicate it.

"Every quality that we consider classically beautiful, she had," said Amy Keller Laird, beauty director of Allure. "She was sexy and girlish at once, she had both those qualities all through her life."

In 1951, Taylor showed off her legendary 19-inch waist in a strapless dress with a bodice top, full tulle skirt and delicate flowers at the neckline designed by Edith Head. InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein said the outfit was the "blueprint for prom dresses of the `50s."

She had the same influence on lingerie styles after she wore a lace-trimmed slip in "Butterfield 8." And black kohl eyeliner was all the rage after "Cleopatra."

Somehow, she even made caftans stylish in the `70s, Rubenstein said with a laugh.

Rubenstein said he had the pleasure of meeting her a few times. "As a child, she was eerily beautiful â€" she never had a child's face, and as a woman, she was unmatchably beautiful," he said.

In person, the most striking thing about her was her impeccable features, but her broader appeal, the one the world saw in photographs, was her overall glamour, he said.

"When she walked into a room, she just had the most amazing presence about her," added designer Elizabeth Emanuel, who is best-known as Princess Diana's wedding dress designer but who also made several looks for Taylor, including caftans. "She was just incredible."

The big studios trained her to always step out the door as glamourpuss Elizabeth Taylor: She wore the role of movie star all the time, and she didn't apologize for it.

"She was an incredible beauty and she had an awareness of her own beauty. Even those we think are great beauties today play it down and speak modestly â€" there's always something they don't like and they apologize for it, but she never did," Rubenstein said. "She was aware of her gifts and truly appreciated them."

He also noted that Taylor made sure any and all of her suitors, from boyfriends and husbands to reporters, knew that she liked gifts and that she expected them. After all, one of the most important diamonds of all time, a 69-carat stone, was a gift from husband No. 5 and 6, Richard Burton. It is now known as the Taylor-Burton Diamond.

Taylor not only owned many pieces of statement jewelry - unlike today's starlets, who borrow them - but she'd wear them often instead of storing them. That goes back to the movie-star thing.

At the Oscars in 1970, she asked costumer Head to create a gown that would show off her necklace, ending up in a blue gown with a very low V bustline.

"Elizabeth Taylor was a style icon who always followed her own unique and daring fashion vision," said Jamie Cadwell, director of the Diamond Information Center, a trade organization. "Her love of jewelry was unsurpassed, and women everywhere continue to be inspired by her incredible collection."

In her clothes, Taylor had a preference for draping, said Emanuel.

Her longevity as a style influencer is proven by the longtime success of her fragrance collections launched with Elizabeth Arden. White Diamonds, which followed 1980s-era Passion and was one of the original celebrity perfumes, has been a beauty-counter best-seller for 20 years.

The fragrances will continue, according to a company statement. "Our best tribute to Elizabeth Taylor will be to continue the legacy of the brands she created and loved so much," said chairman and CEO E. Scott Beattie.

"White Diamonds is still one of our readers' favorite fragrances. The fact that hers has stood the test of time, even though every hot celebrity has a fragrance, says a lot about her as a beauty icon," said Allure's Laird. (AP)

"We are expecting more than 500 special guests coming over from India and Pakistan", said an official.

Suniel Shetty confirmed his presence wih a big "Yup", while Rahul Bose said, "I can't think of missing such an exciting match. Just waiting for some friend and I'll be there." "Akshay Kumar has been invited by Punjab's deputy CM Sukhbir Badal," said a source. The Deols – Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby – are expected, and so is Vijender Singh.

The expected list also includes Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, Vindoo Dara Singh, Satish Kaushik, Parveen Dabas and Raveena Tandon-Thadani. In Pakistan too, people are busy preparing. I wont be wearing a bikini Kangna

Work beckoned Kangna Ranaut even on her birthday recently. And that too far away from home on promotional duty for her latest flick.

But the lady sure made up for that by partying through the previous night and well into the early hours of the morning. And it seemed she partied a wee bit too much, as she remained seated on the bed in her hotel room and refused to remove her oversized sunglasses while chatting with BT. "I had a blast last night," is all she said about her birthday festivities.

But despite the lack of sleep, Kangna was thrilled to be in Bangalore to talk about her new film, the Excel Entertainment offering Game, which sees her play a cop. "I'm happy to be here. We're meeting fans and engaging them in a contest, the winners of which will be flown to Mumbai for the final," she said. As for her character in the film, Kangna plays a cop. "My character is a detective based in London. Since it's a murder mystery, I'm not given a song or dance sequence," she explained.

The actress, who is still basking in the success of her film Tanu Weds Manu, has an action-packed year ahead. "I've just finished shooting for Double Dhamaal, which also has an ensemble cast. Then there's Rascals with Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan and later in the year I will be seen in Happy New Year," she elaborated. Rumour has it that Kangna agreed to don a bikini in Rascals, albeit after laying down certain terms and conditions. True? "Of course not! I won't be wearing a two-piece swimming costume. I wonder where people get such news from. They just print whatever they want and don't even have the courtesy to ask me if there's any truth to the report," said Kangna.

As for reports of Sonal Chauhan replacing the actress in the Big B-starrer Bbuddah, the actress maintains that she was never part of the project. "The film was offered to me. But after reading the script, I figured that this was not what I wanted to do at this point and hence did not take it up. You don't do every film offered to you. So there was no question of being replaced," she explains. What then is she looking for? "What I'd love to do are simple love stories," she said and joined the rest of the cast, including Abhishek Bachchan and Sarah-Jane Dias, to cut a cake that the hotel had prepared for their special guest on her big day.

Say no to drugs, Abhishek urges youth

Actor Abhishek Bachchan has joined hands with Narcotics Control Bureau to urge youth to stay away from drugs.

The actor flagged off the Awareness Run Against Drug Abuse campaign Sunday initiated by the bureau during its silver jubilee celebrations.

After the event, Abhishek shared his feelings about the campaign on microblogging site Twitter saying,

"Just flagged of a great initiative by the Narcotics Control Bureau - say no to drugs!

They're doing great work in helping educate people."

The actor's forthcoming film "Dum Maro Dum" is about drugs.

Sushmita Sen calls on Dalai Lama

Bollywood star Sushmita Sen Monday met the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, to seek his blessings, said an official here.

"She just came to seek his blessings," Tenzin Taklha, joint secretary at the Dalai Lama's Office, told us.

Dressed in a traditional maroon robe, the Nobel Peace Prize winner presented her 'khata', a traditional white robe given by the Tibetans in honour.

Born July 6, 1935, to a family of farmers in a small hamlet in Taktser in northeastern Tibet, the Dalai Lama fled his homeland in 1959 after a failed uprising and has been staying here since.

A total of 140,000 Tibetans live in exile, over 100,000 of them in different parts of India itself.

Ash-Hugh plan to work together

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who honoured Hugh Wolverine Jackman, at a recently concluded FICCI will soon meet him again.

Hugh was overheard telling Ash that they must catch up to discuss how they could work together in the near future. Ash,

who has already worked with the likes of Colin Firth and Steve Martin, among many others, also met Hugh's wife Deborah and they bonded backstage.

Deborah took the conversation forward by asking her how the couple can get in touch with her as they had something big to talk about. Numbers were exchanged.

Keenan promoting Mallika

Mallika Sherawat has found a friend in her new home, Hollywood. The industry is abuzz with news that the sex symbol has a godfather of sorts in William Keenan, who's making sure she gets invited to the right parties and meets the right people.

That explains how the actress, a virtual nobody in LA got entry into the exclusive LA party circuit, and has been hobnobbing with the who's who of Hollywood.

Reveals an informer, "Mallika has always been comfortable with older men, than men of her own age, and William is in his fifties and fits the bill. He is well-known in LA and is helping her get a break there with his contacts."
Keenan is a former actor whose credits include Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and Friends With Money, and has produced Waiting and O.M.C.

He is one of the main reasons she lives there for long periods of time. He runs a production house that has already been associated with Mallika's two Hollywood projects Hisss and Barack: Politics Of Love. He is a partner with Govind Menon, who has made about four films with the actress.

" Menon and Keenan have launched the Indian-US production consultancy Nuclear Mango, and the former got Jennifer Lynch to direct Hisss for the actress. Mallika remained unavailable for a comment.

Katrina Kaif in Krrish 3

Priyanka Chopra is probably unaware that she will be sharing screen space with Kat

Third time lucky? Or should that read third time unlucky? After aborted attempts by Shristhi Behl to bring Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra together in her desi version of Bride Wars and Anurag Basu's effort to cast these two Bollywood hotties in Barfee, reports say that Kat has now been added to the cast of Rakesh Roshan's Krrish-3, which mainlines Hrithik Roshan and PC.

Destiny has a way of squaring up things. Rivals Katrina and Priyanka have gone to great lengths to ensure that they don't star in the same film, so it now remains to be seen how PC reacts to her rival being added to the film. Our source says, "The film is expected to go on floors on June 15 after Hrithik finishes shooting the major schedule of Agneepath in Diu.

The writing work on Krrish-3 is currently in full steam. And a new role has been written in for another actress (read: Kat) in the superhero sequel."

Kat and Hrithik, who have completed work on Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, got along like a house on fire during their Spain schedule.

And it is said that Hrithik is keen to have her play a role in his home production. Neither Kat nor the Roshans wish to go on record about this casting, however, sources close to Kat say that she is already thinking of her wardrobe and other requirements for one of Bollywood's most-awaited sequels.

I'm not a womanizer Ranbir

Constant link ups with actresses like Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Nargis Fakhri are irking Ranbir Kapoor. He is no longer amused at being painted a womanizer and neither are his parents.

So self-conscious has Ranbir become of his image of the wild lover-boy that he has decided to now gravitate to the other end.

"That isn't me that's being written about. I've had enough. I just want to withdraw from the limelight completely for sometime," said Ranbir, 28.

The actor is currently busy shooting for Imtiaz Ali's "Rockstar" with half Czech-half Pakistani model Nargis Fakhri.

"More than himself Ranbir is embarrassed because of his parents. He can take any kind of flak or rumour. But if his parents get affected, he reacts. And now Ranbir has had enough. He won't take the Casanova image lying down," said Ranbir's friend.

"Ranbir is specially cheesed off by the rumours about Nargis. He has never treated her as anything more than a co-star. Ranbir goes out with her, yes, but only in a group with his other friends."

The friend says there's a valid reason for why Ranbir was seen with Nargis at a movie recently.

"Nargis is under an exclusive contract with Asthvinayak the producers of 'Rockstar'. She can't be seen at public events or at social gatherings with people outside her 'Rockstar' team. Her most logical instinct is to hang around with her 'Rockstar' co-star Ranbir and his friends," said the friend.

Speaking on the much-reported movie where Ranbir and Nargis were spotted together, the concerned friend reveals, "Ranbir was keen to see 'The King's Speech' and not 'Black Swan' as reported in the press with his buddy Ayan Mukerjee. Nargis wanted to come along. Which she did, with a female friend of hers, at the PVR. During interval when Ranbir came out, there were more than 50 press photographers waiting to click him and Nargis together... at 11 p.m.! Who informed the press? Certainly not Ranbir or Nargis or their friends who accompanied them for the movie."

The actor entered filmdom just four years ago with "Saawariya" and has featured in hits like "Wake Up! Sid", "Raajneeti" and "Bachna Aae Haseeno".

Ranbir's friend feels the image of the womanizer is being carried to the extreme and being planted by "vested interests" only to show that the actor is not as serious about his work as his colleagues.

According to the friend, the last straw was Ranbir's link-up with Anushka. After this rumour broke out, Ranbir's father Rishi Kapoor finally asked his son to do something about the endless gossip.

Laughed the friend, "Isn't she seeing Ranveer Singh? Why would Ranbir cosy up to someone else's girl? It was reported that he was with Anushka in the backseat of their car. Wrong! Ranbir was in the front seat with his friend Ayan. Anushka was on the backseat with Ranveer Singh. They all drove to the Olive for a meal where they were joined by Shahid Kapoor.

Soha, Kunal ready to marry

Facing the camera with her mom was not an easy task for Soha Ali Khan who was "nervous" while shooting with Sharmila Tagore for the film "Life Goes On". This is the first time the duo will be seen together on screen.

"I didn't forget my lines or anything, but I was nervous because she has a very good aesthetic sense," Soha told in an interview here.

"When in a good mood, she is amazing. But when in a bad mood, it's like the worst thing ever. But she was very good and restrained during shooting and also suggested to me to follow director Sangeeta Datta's instruction carefully," added the 32-year-old actor who was here for an event.

"Life Goes On" opens Friday and it is an emotional drama about generational conflict set in contemporary London.

Asked about her expectations, she said: "I have no expectation and I have learnt not to expect anything from films. Yes, it was great working for the movie. I got a chance to work with ammi (Sharmila). It's quite an emotional movie where the journey of the loss of a mother and family is portrayed in a sensitive way," she said.

Banker-turned-actress Soha made her debut with Anant Mahadevan's 2004 film "Dil Maange More" and featured next year in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Rang De Basanti".

For Soha, getting into showbiz was not an initial career choice, but thanks to her actor brother Saif and her mother, it soon became her profession too. Despite coming from an illustrious film family, she is still struggling for her share of limelight in tinseltown.

After the debacle of "Tum Mile", Soha is hoping for a better future in Bollywood.

"I was offered a variety of roles, which range from practical to interesting to downright outrageous, but things didn't work out well. This year you will see me in a variety of roles," said Soha.

Her first release will be "Chemistry" with Shreyas Talpade. Co-produced by Shreyas, the love story revolves around two people dumped by their respective partners and their lives afterwards.

"It's a mad role and you will see me in pink hair in it. My character is between Charlie Chaplin and Devanand Sagar. The character was a bit out of my normal acting range as I do more intense films. There is a lot of improvisation and laughs," she said.

"I am also doing a film called 'Sound track' which is opposite Rajiv Khandelwal. It is an official remake of Hollywood comedy 'It's All Gone Pete Tong '. Rajiv plays DJ and I play a girl who is born deaf. I find the role very interesting. It was difficult to get into that mode because I can't imagine life without sound and you can't work it out either. So I kept on forgetting the fact that I am playing a deaf girl," said Soha.

Talking about her personal life, Soha, who is dating Kunal Khemu, said she is ready to settle down in a couple of years.

"I am in comfortable space and we (Kunal and Soha) are happy with our career graphs; so whenever the right time comes, we will announce our marriage," she said.

What about Saif who said he'll get married before her as he's the elder brother?

"That's not necessary. I don't have to wait for anyone because I don't want to. If he takes 10 years then I will never wait. I don't know how long he will take, he might tie the knot tomorrow!" she said.

Is Bipasha Basu the reason for Rana Daggubati-Shriya Saran split!

Bipasha denies being with him, but his girlfriend of five years has walked away

South siren Shriya Saran and Rana Daggubati have split. The decision to break their five-year-old relationship (they managed to keep it discreet for the first three years) came after Shriya learnt about his proximity to Bipasha Basu during the shooting of Dum Maro Dum, in which he debuts in Bollywood.

Shriya lost trust in her man after rumours of Rana-Bips first surfaced. Then came news of the Bips-John split and her worst fears were confirmed. An insider says, "Though Shriya and Rana never made their relationship public, everyone knew about it. It was understood that they would end up together someday. However, Rana started getting close to Bipasha and that's when Shriya decided to end the relationship rather than wait around for him to outgrow his infatuation. Shriya and Rana are not even on talking terms anymore, even though she is still close to his family."

Bips speak
Says Bipasha, "It's preposterous! Surely a gimmick of some sorts. Rana isn't even my 3 am friend as reported. God knows where all this is coming from... give me a break and some respect, please! Sometimes it's tiring to know about your own self through papers. Bizarre! Rana is a newcomer who is paired opposite me just like Ranbir Kapoor was in Bachna Aae Haseeno and Neil Nitin Mukesh was in Aa Dekhe Zaraa. I believe in making a newcomer comfortable and have a rapport so our work is good together. When I was a newcomer, people made me comfortable by being nice and friendly. Why do people have to read into everything? I'm friends with Ranbir and Neil too, so is that wrong
as well?"

No Friday jitters for Akki

Akshay Kumar says he's stopped worrying about the numbers game, about being insecure about his stardom being subject to hits and flops.

Akshay therefore, has stopped having Friday jitters and goes about the business of concentrating on numerous acting assignments simultaneously, he tells us. His next venture, Anees Bazmee's "Thank You", where he teams up with Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Irrfan Khan, releases on April 8, but the actor is in London and busy shooting for "Desi Boyz".

His last release, "Patiala House", got him favourable reviews, for his performance, and strengthened his position as one of those actors who manage three to four releases each year that cut across many genres, from social dramas to romantic and even slapstick comedies. Akshay's contemporaries and competitors in the film industry liken him to a "Mr Dependable" of sorts. Says Aamir Khan, "Akshay is actually one of the most dependable names in the business. He is a great looker, a fabulous dancer and a huge star. When you reach the stage where guys like Akshay, Hrithik, Shah Rukh, Salman and I are, I honestly don't think one should harp about a hit and flop routine. The important thing is to do good work; work that one believes in, like Akshay has been doing."

Kareena Kapoor, who has reportedly been offered a role opposite Akshay in Ekta Kapoor's "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai"'s sequel, says, "I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to be in the "OUATIM" sequel or not. I'm not at liberty to speak about it at this point. But I'm looking forward to doing a film with Akshay by the end of the year."

Filmmaker Nikhil Advani too, is keen to make his next with Akshay. "He gave a terrific performance in "Patiala House". For as long as Akshay wants to work with me, I'll try and find subjects suitable for him. He's not only a very big star, he is also a very dependable and disciplined actor," he says. Sonakshi Sinha, who's doing Shirish Kunder's "Joker" and Prabhu Devaa's untitled venture with the Khiladi, says, "I'm fortunate that after Salman Khan, I got to do my next film with another superstar like Akshay. Not many newcomers get opportunities like this."

Ranbir tells Deepika she's hot

Deepika Padukone has been getting rave reviews for her sexy act in Dum Maaro Dum's remix in which she's flaunts her curves and gyrates to the sexy beats.

Everyone's talking about it including her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor who's bowled over by her ada and jhatkas. An insider tells us that he has been raving about her in the song, and that he even sent her a message.

Dips confirms, "He (Ranbir) did tell me that he liked my video." But on probing further on the contents of the text message, she snaps, "Now, I'm not going to share that with you right?" Ok then, we get the point and will just read between the lines!

Ask her about Dev Anand's objection to his cult song being remixed, and if she's likely to hold a screening of her number for him as a peace offering, she says, "I will let Rohan decide that. But since the song is on TV am sure people have already seen it."

John to make TV debut

John Abraham might just be the next Bollywood star to make his TV debut. The actor has been approached to host the desi version of the popular reality show,

Survivor. The show is likely to go on air in a couple of months and many TV actors have already been tapped to participate in it. While the talks with John are still on, there are two more names doing the rounds — Ajay Devgn and Arjun Rampal. "The channel's considering these two stars as well, to host the show. It's after all the biggest show for them," says a source.

Both Ajay and Arjun have made their foray into television, but only as judges (Ajay judged the show Rock and Roll Family with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja and Arjun was a judge on Nach Baliye 4).
So who will eventually host Survivor among the three? Well, with their 'fit and fab' image, all of them seem perfect for the job.

About Survivor
In this show, a group of people are marooned on an island. Apart from being voted out, often contestants get eliminated owing to medical conditions such as injury or infection as the show is physically very challenging. The last two or three survivors face a jury composed of the last seven, eight, or nine players voted out. That jury interrogates the final few and then votes for the winner of the game. The American version has been very successful. It's considered the mother of reality TV because it was the first highly-rated and profitable reality show on broadcast television in the US.

SRK to romance Katrina now

Following our story on September 28, 2010, about SRK in Yash Chopra's next directorial venture, the industry was abuzz with speculations over the actress that would make the cut.

All rumours can be put to rest now. For the first time in her eight-year acting career, Katrina Kaif, will star opposite SRK in the YRF project.

A source close to YRF says, "Katrina was the first choice for the heroine's role in Yashji's film. She immediately said 'yes' to the film. She has loved the script and is looking forward to working with Yashji. She will play Shah Rukh's romantic interest."

Talking about the film's storyline, the source reveals, "Obviously, the film will be a love story. Yashji is a master of romance. There is no reason why he will not generate and extract great chemistry between Shah Rukh and Katrina."

Since the production house has witnessed some turmoil in the recent past, YRF is depending on the success of this project. When asked if SRK and Katrina feel secure about this endeavour, the source says, "Shah Rukh and Katrina have very good relations with Yashji and Aditya. They have equal faith in both of them. They are like family to them."

Considering, the last film that SRK did with Yash Chopra (Veer Zaara, 2004) was a success, here's hoping that all works out well for YRF.

Biggest of Bollywood's babas

On Wednesday afternoon, when Sanjay Dutt was shooting for Indra Kumar's Double Dhamaal on the third floor of Mehboob Studios, we saw quite a huge turn out of B-townies paying visit to Sanjubaba.

We thought Sanju had thrown a secret bash for his close friends and colleagues. When we probed, we were told that it was just a visit everyone paid, out of their respect and love for him.

While Sanju was at his wittiest best shooting with his co-actors Arshad Warsi, Ashish Chowdhury, Riteish Deshmukh etc., on the sixth floor of the same building, biwi Maanyata was bonding with her sisters-in-law, Namrata Dutt and Priya, who were shooting for a magazine cover. After pack up in the afternoon, Sanjay joined them to relax for a while.

Amongst those who came to visit Dutt, T Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar and his trusted aide Vinod Bhanushali were the first.

Salman Khan, who had just entered the studio to shoot for another magazine to promote his film Ready, learnt about Baba's presence on the sixth floor and went to meet him. The two have been close ever since their Saajan days in the early 90's. Now even we felt nostalgic.

Adjacent to Sanju's floor, Suniel Shetty, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan and Celina Jaitley were promoting their upcoming film Thank You. Suniel too grabbed a chance to strike a conversation with his friend.

Just when we thought that finally the visits had come to an end, Shilpa Shetty, who too was shooting for a magazine, also paid a short visit to Sanju and his family.

Shilpa was heard saying that it has been a while since they met. Even director Rohit Jugraj and hair stylist Aalim Hakim took this opportunity to meet Sanju. Whew!

That's not all. After spending brief time with Salman and having a hearty laugh, as Sanju was leaving for home with Maanyata, music directors Sajid Wajid, producer Rajat Rawail, project designer Rafi Kazi, secretary Rajkumar Tiwari, Celina Jaitley, Salman's sister Arpita, Asin (And we're running out of space here), Salman's trusted aide Nadeem came ahead and began to hug and talk to Sanju baba.

When Sanjay Dutt was charged with involvement in the 1993 bomb blasts, with a supportive father (late) Sunil Dutt, he managed to surpass everyone's expectations.

He not only fought his court battle like a man but also bounced back after a 14-year-long ordeal. Despite all that harshness, his warmth still surrounds one and all.

Perhaps it's those years that made him the man he is. It's what makes him command such love and respect from his colleagues and industrywallas. We were left jaw dropped!

MF Hussain to paint Anushka's portrait

On January 29, 2010, we reported that M F Hussain's latest muse was Anushka Sharma. Apparently the actress is still the apple of the painter's eye, as he wishes to do a portrait of her.

Though not up to Madhuri standards, (Hussain had watched Hum Aapke Hain Koun 73 times) Hussain has however watched Sharma's Band Baaja Baraat 25 times. And since the very first time, he had wanted to get in touch with the actress and discuss the possibilities of putting her on canvas.

Around that time, Anushka's spokesperson had told us, "Once we contact the artist, we will think of the next course of action. We have so far not received any invitation from him directly. This is something that cannot be kept under wraps."

However, on Tuesday evening, M F Hussain called up Yash Chopra regarding his desire to paint Anushka, who in turn informed the actress. She promptly got in touch with the artist.

Hussain and Anushka spoke for quite some time on the phone. "Hussain told Anushka that he has zeroed down on some pictures of her from the Internet. He would soon like to interpret those pictures into painting with his sensibilities," revealed a source.

Anushka's spokesperson confirmed, "It is a great pleasure for Anushka to share a place on Hussain's list with someone as big as Madhuri Dixit."

No end to Katrina, Ranbir's love story

Katrina Kaif's got the jawaani and she's got the hits. What more can an actress ask for? Love, actually.

A close friend says the heartthrob of millions has been rather lovelorn since her ajab prem ki ghazab kahani with Ranbir Kapoor hit rough weather. While there's been talk of her getting back with boyfriend of many years Salman Khan, the one she would actually consider returning to is Saawariya Ranbir.

A friend said she was still in love with him and willing to take him back as long as he mends his flirtatious ways.

Ranbir has been linked with Rockstar heroine Nargis Fakhri and is now warming up to Anushka Sharma of Band Bajaa Baaraat fame. The source said, "He's been socialising with both the newcomers too frequently in the recent past for comfort. This has not gone down well with Katrina".

Kat and Ranbir were a couple for over a year even though they did not admit to it, sources close to both said. They fell apart after talk of his philandering refused to die down. "These transient attractions are common in Bollywood. But they can't go on forever.

The boy has to mend his ways. If he does, she's still committed enough to take him back. Her feelings for him are genuine," the source added.

And what of her renewing her relationship with Salman Khan? "Katrina and Salman parted ways long ago and have never considered getting back together.

They share a special bond and remain good friends. They may even work together in Kabir Khan's next film for Yash Raj Films," the source said.

Ranbir's ways with women have in the past cost him his relationship with Deepika Padukone, who also waited for him to return before moving on to Siddhartha Mallya. What are the chances that he will change for Kat?

Bollywood bigwigs on Kangna B'day

Kangna Ranaut is all geared up to make her 24th birthday a star-studded event. Rather than taking her party to the usual nightclubs, she is calling her guests over to her Bandra residence.

While previous birthdays were low key, Kangna has decided to reach out to B-town's A listers this time. A source tells us, "Kangna has always celebrated her birthday, as she feels special on the day. It has always been a low key celebration with only close friends.

However, this time she is riding on the success of her recent films and is in the mood to celebrate. It's her 24th birthday and rather than having it at some night club, she decided to celebrate it at her residence. She has called many people from Bollywood.

The list includes Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and wife Maanyata, Tanu Weds Manu producer Sunil Bohra, co-star R. Madhavan, David Dhawan, Arjun Rampal and others. It will be quite a party at her residence."

With all the media speculations over her strained relationships with people in the industry, this guest list has certainly come as a surprise. In an interview with a Mumbai Mirror reader on March 13, 2011, Kangna referred to herself as an "outsider" and claimed that many "insiders" were critical of her and hampered her growth in the industry.

Her latest gesture seems to show that she no longer wants to be on the outside, looking in.

Soha looks up to Barkha Dutt

Bollywood stars often complain of intrusive questions from the media and controversies created by their reporting. But actresses Divya Dutta and Shahana Goswami say their respect for mediapersons has grown manifold after playing journalists on screen.

Divya and Shahana are playing journalists in the forthcoming movies "Monica" and "Game" respectively.

"Playing a journalist in 'Monica' helped me see a very interesting facet of being a political journalist wherein you get to enter the corridors of the political setup of the country and ask about anything! It made me realise what a powerful zone the mediapersons are in," Divya told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

"I've always looked up to women journalists like Barkha Dutt, who are strong and intelligent. But I respect them even more now," added Divya, whose character in the film is extremely ambitious and bold.

Shahana, who is essaying a crime reporter in Abhinay Deo's thriller "Game", says she never thought being a journalist could be so tough.

"The background of my role is that of a journalist but I am not doing too much related to the profession in the film. However, for one scene, I had to do a PTC (piece to camera) and I realised it was very tough reporting live. It was quite an experience," said Shahana.

Recently, Rani Mukerji donned the garb of a bold and fearless mediaperson in Rajkumar Gupta's "No One Killed Jessica". Though the role was a departure from the usual roles she essays, Rani said she didn't have to go out of her way to learn a journalist's mannerisms as she had met many during her career.

However, Soha Ali Khan's perception about journalists changed quite a bit after she played one of them in the 2008 film "Mumbai Meri Jaan".

"At one point I wanted to be a journalist. Then I was at the receiving end. Now after playing a TV journalist in 'Mumbai Meri Jaan', I'm more sympathetic towards the media's job. I understand why they need to ask uncomfortable questions. Of course, I still won't answer personal questions. But I understand the journalist has a right to ask what he or she wants to," Soha had said in an earlier interview.

The trend of female actors essaying a strong role of mediapersons is not new.
