Golmaal 3 goes ahead Action Replayy at box office

MUMBAI: From the big clash at the box-office of two star-studded entertainers, Golmaal 3 has taken a lead as compared to Action Replayy. Both the films had a successful legacy behind it.

If Golmaal had already established its brand as a zany comedy from its past two episodes, the combination of Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah had a 100% success ratio at the box-office with films like Aankhen, Namastey London and Singh is King. While both the films were much anticipated and both were comedies, audiences preferred the madcap humour of Golmaal 3 over the romantic comedy of Action Replayy.

Both films opened on a low note on Friday, the Diwali day when the country was busy with festivities. The films picked up on Saturday but only Golmaal 3 managed to sustain over the weekend. Action Replayy didn't get as much favourable response. The occupancy for Golmaal was around 80-90% while Action Replayy was much low with only 30-40% occupancy.

Golmaal 3 triumphed at the box office with a remarkable opening weekend gross collection of Rs. 60 crores (Net Collection of Rs. 40 crores) in India and Rs. 10 crores overseas. The film opened across 2000 plus screens worldwide.

Commenting on the opening, Nandu Ahuja, Sr. VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd said, "Golmaal 3 opened at 80% - 90% occupancy across the country. Moreover, the long Diwali weekend helped draw in large footfalls in theatres. The film is running packed shows all over India and the current figures strongly indicate that the film is a blockbuster in the making. The feedback received from our distributors and audiences also suggest that there is tremendous repeat viewing factor which will only enhance the performance of the film in the coming weeks."

Pranab Kapadia, President of Distribution, Eros International added, "Golmaal 3 is enjoying a superb response with a fabulous Opening across UK, Australia, Middle East etc".

Ken Naz, President, Eros International, USA added, "Golmaal 3 has taken an excellent opening in USA. The reports have been are extremely encouraging with sold out evening shows in most theatres much in advance."

Action Replayy could manage only around Rs 16 crores which can be considered too low for any Akshay Kumar film.

The coming week has small releases in the form of Jimmy Sheirgill – Sanjay Suri's horror film 'A Flat' and Saahil Khan – Khali's 'Rama – The Saviour'. The Hollywood releases are much bigger in comparison with 'The Social Network' and 'Skyline' releasing this Friday.

That should give another week for Golmaal 3 to fare well at the box-office. Will Action Replayy benefit from the same? Sounds improbable
