Bollywood's gun-toting scoundrels

At the launch of Anil Sharma's 1991 film Farishtay on August 29, 1987 at the Cantaur in Juhu, lead actors Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Rajinikanth get into the cowboy spirit complete with guns and belts and rugged hats.

While Dharam and Vinod who play thieves in the film sport vests and cowboy hats, Rajini, who plays a cop, sticks to the inspector cap and the khaki uniform in this picture taken by lensman Jagdish Aurangabadkar.

While Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna, stick to smiling, Rajinikanth goes a step forward to get into the skin of his character in the film Police Inspector Arjun Ramojirao Shivajirao Gaikwad Jadish Mulk Tange. Yes, that is just one name. Of one person.

After all, it's for Rajinikanth. The megastar (as many would like to call the actor) who went on to become the heartthrob of millions across the globe and acquired a demigod status played a cop with a mile-long name in this film that released in the early nineties.

Rajini does the cop salute in his flamboyant style and dons the khaki garb. He even wears a pistol as a pendant around his neck. Mind It!

The papier-mâché rocks and Rajini's semi-closed eyes are priceless. And so is Vinod Khanna's suspenders-over-a-vest look.

A look that we perhaps will never ever get to see Khanna in. And as Rajini returns to India this week, having recovered from his ailment in Singapore, we bring this picture as a memory of the man who rules a million hearts even today.
