The award show, known for its controversial moments and amazing musical performances, was held on Sunday September 12th in Los Angeles, California.
Chelsea Handler joined the likes of Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, and Ben Stiller as the host of the award show.
The stage, which has been taken by the talents of Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Nirvana, to name a few, saw Eminem and Rihanna start the show.
Eminem performed his hit single, “Not Afraid” and then “Love The Way You Lie” with Rihanna.
Teen sensation Justin Bieber then took the spotlight to perform in front of his female fans. Bieber was then followed onstage by his mentor, R&B superstar Usher.
The stage was also taken by last years’ damsel in distress, Taylor Swift. After a recap of Kanye West’s sabotage of her victory at last years’ show, Swift performed a new song from her latest album. The album, her follow up to her highly successful Fearless, is titled, Speak Now.
Hip Hop’s newest star, Drake, treated the audience to his current hit, “Fancy.”
Also performing during the show were B.o.B., Bruno Mars, Paramore, and Kanye West. West debuted his new song, “Last Call.”
And Lady Gaga told the world the name of her upcoming album, Born This Way.
Gaga, who was clearly the winner of the night, won the awards for Best Collaboration with Beyoncé and Best Female Video for “Bad Romance.” “Bad Romance” also won for Best Pop Video, Best Dance Music Video, and the biggest award of them all, Video of the Year.
Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” won for Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video.
Justin Bieber was the recipient of Best New Artist and 30 Seconds To Mars took home the Best Rock Video.
